I feel like this is a simple question but I just was curious. If your MOC does not call you to notify you o f an offer of appointment, when you find out by either receiving the BFE or status update email and change of portal, does that mean that the decision was actually made 10 days prior to that day?

It may mean that.
My DS was only called by one of the MOCs who nominated him, and that was to say that he had been nominated.
He never received a call about getting the Offer of Appointment. He just saw his status change to "Fully Qualified Offer of Appointment".

It doesn't mean it was 10 days prior. It means a decision was made at some point prior to that date and now your portal is updated. Not sure how many days admissions gives right now for the MOC to call before the update, but it's some. Honestly, doesn't really matter. USNA makes a decision, MOC is notified and allowed time to call (they either do or don't), portal updates.

My son’s portal was updated on Thursday. His MOC called on a Monday. His appointment offer came on Wednesday.

But as you suggest, we do not know when the actual decision was made and how long it took to hit the portal.

So your son got the BFE before the portal update?

We haven’t gotten the BFE yet.

He just got small envelope from USNA ... he had to agree to accept a marine or restricted line ... because he is colorblind. He signed it and sent it back ASAP.

The police sent his report last week, and he sent his birth certificate and tattoo statement in this week.

It is very rare for a BFE to show up before a portal update or MOC call. As in it shouldn't happen, but crazy things have happened. MOC or portal update is the mostly likely scenario. Seems to be 50/50 on getting a phone call.

Just curious as to which way you think he'll attempt to go.... Marine or Restricted Line. Perhaps he doesn't even know himself yet. Just curious and rooting for the Corps! Bit it's a no lose situation!

As my son signed it, he said he is hoping he gets intelligence but is thankful and will go wherever they want him.

He is under the impression that marines are the tough guys and although he is solid athlete in great shape, he is a wimp!

Go Marine. DD and SIL are both. They met at TBS. Just remember that they will be evaluated by USMC Cadre at USNA for Marine. Good Luck.

The Marine Officers I know are just like everyone else, except they like to exercise and then exercise some more, when they can. There are plenty of MOSs available. He should check them out online. Nothing wrong with unrestricted line either and it might suit him better depending on what his goals are. I imagine he won't have to decide for quite some time so there is plenty of time to investigate his option. Good luck to him. I'm so glad the waiver came through for him.

You guys almost got it.;)

We stole the Eagle from The Air Force, the anchor from The Navy, and the rope from The Army.
On the seventh day when God rested, we overran his perimeter - stole the globe - and we've been running the show ever since.

Ha! Classic!

I hate exercise... I chose the wrong service. I actually workout more now than when I was in the Marines. Gosh I hate running...

Not me. I walk the dog about 5K every morning. That's it.
I find that exercise shakes the Scotch out of the glass.

I refuse to do mud runs. Why would I pay for something they used to make me do! I actually put in 3-5 miles a day between the gym and dog walking. Also usually a good 45 minute HIIT class. I think it helps with work stress.
