Does anyone know if USMA appointments are presented at high school graduations? If so, who typically coordinates the presentation with the school: parent/student, school or someone else? Appreciate any info. Thanks in advance.

Reach out to your field force rep. Our field force rep came and spoke at my son's graduation.
You will need to ask if your school will allow this since not all do.

Thank you for the reply. I will follow this advice. Much appreciated.

I hope you’re able to arrange this. We had the benefit of a Major from USMA history department speak at my son’s graduation, of course in full dress uniiform, and he brought the house down. I imagine it was a standard speech welcoming our son into the Profession of Arms, but it was well delivered- a “USA, USA!” chant erupted immediately afterwards! It was a very nice experience. Of course, we live 30 mins from West Point, so I’m sure that factored into who presented.

That sounds awesome!!

Make sure your DS/DD is on board with the plan. Some kids love this, others don’t. Some like the attention, others don’t. As a parent, I wouldn’t mind something like this, but I know both DD and DS prefer to keep things on the down low.

Agree with the thread. Field Force likes to work with candidate and do what they want. Then work with the school. WP prefers to present appointments at academic awards ceremonies...

My regional commander presented mine at our high school academics awards ceremony. It was really nice. No one from my school had ever gone to the Academy (not an Army area) so my town was very excited to have someone in ASUs there. I won't ever forget that.

Make sure you check with your school as some of us are still under COVID related restrictions.

Last year, schools in my area had nothing in person, but they asked FFRs to send in videos.

Every school/district is different. Our high school usually does a presentation for students that received Service Academy appointments and ROTC scholarships at the Academic Awards Ceremony. At graduation, all graduates that will be serving, both in college and enlisted are asked to stand and be recognized. For 2020 grads, it was all done online.

Like my son...he shut us down at the mere suggestion.

Fact is, there wasn't much of a HS graduation ceremony last summer (and by the time they had it, he was already in his 3rd or 4th week of Beast).

Very anticlimactic after 12 years of hard work...we asked if his younger brother could "walk" for him? Very quick turnaround on the response from school officials: NO!

HS Diploma arrived a week or so later in the mail...Didn't matter - he was at West Point!

At the High School Awards night, DS and others were recognized well. First: all graduating seniors entering the military (Enlisted, ROTC or SA) were asked to stand to received a welcome from the large crowd. Then the 3 that were going to a SA each had a presentation from a representative of that Service. Personally, it was nice to see it. I recall the HS had about 1,000 graduates: 1 USNA, 2 USAFA, some ROTC, and about 8 enlistees. I was proud to see my USNA son recognized. Here's a CBS Video about ARMY NAVY that tries to describe SA attendees. It's Not College.

My son’s award ceremony only did something for him and his friend who was appointed to WP.

In his valedictorian speech - which he couldn’t give because he was already inducted, but requested the Resource Officer to give it as he served in Navy as enlisted before becoming a cop ... he recognized all enlisted and ROTC and asked God to bless them as they embark on careers serving our country.

Love those Army Navy hype videos.
