Appointment timeframes

No, there is no "big drop date" for USMMA appointments. You can see historical data on offers of appointment that are reported on this forum presented by Shiner on the appointment thread. Acceptance deadlines for appointments made before May 1st are all on May 1st. For later appointments, each comes with its own acceptance deadline, usually within 1-3 days.

I remember a lot of alternates being chosen pretty close to the start of Indoc. We could tell them right away, because they had their name tags made with a Dymo label maker. Hey, it was the 70s. . . .

Your candidate will generally receive a change on the portal, an email, an appointment package via FedEx, and possibly a call from his or her nominating authority. The timing of these steps varies. Usually the nominating authority is given a few days as a heads up in case he/she wants to deliver the news. Not all choose to do so. If you live close to Kings Point, you might receive a physical packet first. Usually the first thing you will see is a change on your portal. Lots of appointments still to come. Good luck.

My DS received his FedEx package with Certificate of Appointment and letter before he even saw the portal change. It took a couple of additional days after receiving the COA before he saw the portal change. When the portal did change the “Accept / Decline” buttons appeared and the appointment showed.

Lol this reminds me even a couple years ago, if you lost the or broke the two name tags that were given to you at the start of Indoc, it would take Atleast a month to get new ones.

What is the date to accept?

May 1 for offers currently outstanding. After that date, your accept/decline time will be shorter and will be specified in your offer.

they gave me three hours to accept or decline last year fwiw
That is not that much time hahaha when did they give you the appointment? My son was notified on Feb 10th and he had until May 1st

Still on hold, I'm hoping for an update soon. Although I've read that appointments are down compared to the last few years so maybe there will be an uptick in appointments in the coming weeks?

Being on hold is still a good thing. The coming appointment will depend on many factors, but don't give it up until you're informed for any outcome. I know how you feel about the waiting. But hang in there, we still hope the best!
