I just received word from my congressman that I got an appointment to west point. It's the best feeling ever. Now can I expect a letter? Also, what is west point looking for me academically for the rest of my senior year? I know I can't slack off too much. And thanks for all your support throughtout the process.

Congratulations, Ramscatcher9! Thank you for committing to serve!

:tank1: :usa:

You will get a beautiful appointment package; actually a nice thick envelope with a letter, certificate of appointment, and instructions for accepting or declining your appointment. The package may also contain (or will be sent soon) a booklet of Instructions for Candidates Offered Admission. You will receive periodic mailing for Admissions. West Point is excellent at communicating how to prepare for Cadet Basic Training and Plebe year.

You should continue the same effort academically that helped to get you accepted to West Point. Now is not the time to slack off . Commitment takes practice.

Again, many congratulations!! :groupwave:

Congratulations!!!

The turn-around was pretty fast for my son. The Congressman called on Friday night and the Appointment was in the mailbox by the following Thursday. USPS Overnight or Express.

Have you had a chance to tell your friends and teachers?

Do yourself a favor and don't slack. Very early in Beast you will take Validation tests. These tests are used for course placement.
If you are taking AP tests then study and try to do well - USMA uses these results in conjunction with the validation tests.

When you take the AP tests please be sure to have the scores sent directly to USMA so they will have them asap.

Congratulations! Good Luck!

Congrats Ramscatcher! :thumb:

Keep up the good work at school and stay in shape.

with it being so early in the admissions process, how early can we expect that packet with more info? my appointment package consisted of a letter, the appointment certificate and a mailing card. just wanted to get an idea so i wouldn't be creeping on the mailman for months to come :)

I recieved a call yesterday informing of the good news as well, the word from the admissions office is that the packets were sent earlier today. So as stated expect it later next week.
Dont slack with your grades at all. They will rescind the appointment if you totally give up on school. Work on all of your PT, running push ups, and pull ups.
Congrats, see you there.

Wow, glooey & etaylor2013, congratulations to you, too!

:usa:

etaylor2013, there should be some information that you can download from your candidate portal. New links may show up after you have been notified of your appointment. Check there periodically.

Not sure when the mailings will come...they may do things differently this year.

Well actually you cannot 'slack' off at all your Senior year. An appointment can be lost as well as gained. Just a heads up.

congrats!!!!!!! I was in basically the exact situation, I got a call from my congressman on thursday (earlier in jan. tho i think the 8th) and the appointment came saturday the 10th so it should come soon, but congrats !!

Son received his appointment packet today. He was jumping up and down when he opened that envelope. It's been a long wait since receiving the LOA in July.

enjoylife, congratulations to your son! :yay::wiggle::rockon::w00t:
Seems like I read on another forum that he is considering the USNA also?
Best of luck in his decision making process!

texan101, congratulations to you! :yay::wiggle::rockon::w00t:
Did you accept you appointment to USMA?

Thanks, Antoinette.

Yes, he is/was taking another look at USNA after a visit from the NA reginal director last week and with our encouragement to check out both academies' options throughly. But he sure was happy to see that appoinment.
