    Hello
I just got my acceptance into the Naval Academy after my LOA and presidential nomination. Im super confused by the instructions. Do I have to accept the offer by an earlier deadline?
    Thank you

Congratulations, and unless things have changed since last year - acceptance deadline is the same.

Congrats! Update the appointment thread. I believe you have the same deadline, if your portal doesn’t say, then you can ask your BGO.

Nice to see - get yourself on over to the 2023 USNA Appointments thread. I’d put yourself as 1), because I think the other two were LOAs.

You can put “undecided” if that applies.

Well done! After you’ve updated the 2023 thread, go wrap yourself up in bubble wrap. Couple layers minimum, more if you can.

MidCakePa speaks the truth. Remember that this is an Offer of Appointment.
You aren't appointed until you sign the papers on June 27, 2019 and take the oath in the blistering sun, wearing your sweat-soaked whiteworks.

So true, @THParent. Although my DD said that the sweat-soaked whiteworks didn’t bother her as much as the “snow blindness” that came from the bright sun reflecting hard off the collective whiteworks of the 4th Regiment.

Hello, I have also received and accepted my offer of appointment. I have a question that would really help to have answered right now. Is it still legal to apply to other schools if I have accepted an Offer of Appointment to the Academy? My stepmother is trying to pressure me and is even punishing me for not having finished those applications to other schools. But I can't afford the added distraction of an endless onslaught of personal essays and detail-providing to Universities I have absolutely 0 intention of attending. I'm in a bad spot at home, and could really use some help if anyone has an answer. Thank you.

Legal ? Probably. I don't know how the acceptance is worded, but do not believe that it reaches to the level of a binding contract. I am sure there are people every year that back out at the last moment , out of fear, remorse, or just changed mind, right before I Day.

Is it Ethical ? There have been several threads touching on this topic. My view is that you should not accept an Offer of Appointment unless you sincerely intend to attend USNA. Continuing application to other schools with an acceptance in hand at least seems like you have doubts.

If you are looking for something to tell your Mother that you can't apply for other schools, you could accept and explain to her that you have accepted an appointment, and feel bound by the commitment you have made. On the other hand, if you have doubts about attending USNA, hold off on the acceptance , and apply to the other schools.

Best of luck, and congrats ..

    First, congratulations.
Second, you break your leg immediately before Induction Day and cannot report. USNA essentially gives you an LOA that tells you to stay eligible and in all respects, keep the grades up in all respects (oops!) with a plebe-like college schedule, and please re-apply.
Third, the prudent junior officer (which you one day aspire to be), exercises operational risk management, always has a viable Plan B. If Plan A implodes, a smooth shift to Plan B is ready to go. Pick 1-2 safe and affordable schools, preferably with a NROTC unit you could join as a college programmer.
Fourth, at USNA you will be infinitely more busy and pressured than you are now. Push yourself, assess the time in your day and how you are spending it. Is it Must Do or Nice/Fun To Do? Social media and gaming or other activities are actually not Must Do, no matter how much they feel like it. Your peers here on SAF are applying to multiple SAs, ROTC scholarships, Plan B and C schools.

Things DO happen right before Induction Day that might interfere with you reporting - accident, injury, illness, family crisis.

+10 to Capt MJ. This is a perfect time to try to put 10 pounds in that 5 pound bag and get it done. At the Academy you will not have enough time to get done what you need to get done, but will be expected to do it. If you start now, it will be easier when you get there.

There are only 232 days to June 27th. Use every one to get in great shape and hone your time-management skills. It will make all the difference during Plebe Summer and the Academic Year. Plebe summer can be an ordeal or a wonderful experience which makes you stronger. Either way, you grow as a person. One way sucks a lot less.

@Andrew_M, congratulations on your appointment. Now, as @Capt MJ and @THParent advise, you’d be very wise to work on Plan B. It’s only one or two “safety” schools — not that much work for a valuable insurance policy.

Each year, a handful of appointees don’t show up or are turned away on the appointed day. Sometimes it’s injury or illness, other times it’s something dumb or irresponsible on the part of the appointee. The smart ones have a great fallback plan that can lead them back to the SA as a reapplicant. They had no intention of attending the Plan B school either, but they’re sure happy they had a Plan B to activate.

A word to the wise...HEED THE CAPT'S ADVICE! Many on this forum know my DS's story. It happened to him, as well as five other appointees in that class in the run-up to I-Day. All sustained late season injuries that kept them out. They ALL had back-up plans in the event of just this kind of situation.
You never think it's going to be you....but if it is, and you don't have a plan B, ask yourself....whatta ya going to do then?

Ds’s assigned roommate was turned away this year on Iday. A known/reported injury wasn’t healed up enough to clear. In Annapolis. On IDay. So yep it happens. And yep have at LEAST a solid alternative.

    And CONGRATS!!

Yes. I recall hearing the Supe say that there were 1,211 candidates there on I-Day this year, but the class portrait says 1,209. They must have lost 2 during processing.

I know of at least one more that joined Tango and has since left. Is there anyway to know how many in total left? Or does one wait until graduation and compare the two numbers? I’m curious...
