Appointments in May

So say someone declines their appointment, does the slot have to be filled or does the academy just save it for next year? I know some people on these forums have said they were notified in May, how does this work? Just wondering because I know two people in my district just declined appointments.

The academy will try to fill the class to the number they have determined to be what they need for 2018. So there will probably be an appointment here and there up until the week the class arrives!

I know my classmate, Alonzo Babers (UAL Pilot, 2x Olympic Gold Medalist) didn't get his appointment until about 4 days prior to reporting!
