Question: How does the April 15th medical qualification deadline at USMA work?

Here's some context, I was called about 3 months ago and was told that I should be "receiving some good news" in the next following week regarding a potential offer of appointment. The next week came and I was instead hit with an email from DoDMERB and medical DQ. Pretty ironic. I immediately went under waiver review and was then reassured by the previous caller that as long as I received the waiver, things would still be looking up in terms of receiving an appointment. That was a few months ago and I have been patiently waiting and have diligently turned in any and all requested information to DoDMERB that could help my chances of receiving a waiver.

However, I am now worried about the April 15th deadline and what that entails regarding a chance of appointment. I have seen people mention that some people do not receive a decision regarding their waivers by the 15th, but on USMA's website, it states that "You must be medically qualified by April 15th. Failure to meet this deadline will result in the withdrawal of support for this waiver request." This leaves me pretty concerned. But as I have browsed the forums, it seems that hundreds, if not thousands of applicants have still not been notified about a waiver request with only 4 days left until the 15th. I have contacted DoDMERB, the USMA admissions office, and pretty much everyone I could think of that would have knowledge on the subject, but I have not really received a clear answer about what the April 15th deadline entails at USMA, if waiver decisions float past that deadline, and if there is anything I could do at this point besides being patient and praying for the best.

I completely understand how busy they must be in admissions right now, so I am looking here to see if anyone may have any insight on the matter. Thank you.

Quick question about this, so on April 15 do a lot of rejections go out and the final appointments go out, I am still waiting, so I am very curious about this?

Appointments come out till May 1, if you are not found medically qualified by April 15 I think your file is closed; it states your file will be closed in the candidate handbook.

Offers will keep coming out until the class is filled - a handful will come out when last minute declines are processed. Over 300 offers still have not been accepted. Offers over the next few weeks will and may have later accept by deadlines.

15 April is the hard deadline for anything medical to be completed and in files - yes, after that files will be closed. That is why we tell candidates to get the other parts of their files completed early so that they can get into the medical pipeline early.

Do you anticipate that USMA has their finger on the trigger as far as offering a good amount of the remaining appointments once that April 15 deadline passes to candidates who are already 3Q’d, or will they continue trickling in?

The "USNA waiting...waiting" thread has lots of TWE posts today...what is the time frame for USMA?

Medically qualified via the waiver process??

DS has not heard a peep out of West Point in a while. USAFA approved his waiver and offered him a spot a month ago, but it was just crickets from USMA. Suddenly today he gets an email that USMA approved his waiver. This roller coaster ride is not over yet!

Continue trickling in until class if filled. Although I expect a hard trickle this next Tuesday and the Tuesday after the original 1 May "accept" deadline.

So is April 15th just the deadline to complete all required form? Would it be possible to still obtain a waiver from West Point after April 15th? I haven't received any updates in my portal.

No - April 15th was the hard deadline for everything medical. Dodmerb, waivers, everything. Sometimes candidate portals take a bit of time to update, so maybe you received a waiver up to the deadline and it just has not yet posted to your portal. One way or another, I would expect that you will know one way or another by sometime next week. That's what I would tell you if you were one of my candidates...
