April: and you are still waiting...

So, April 21st...and you are still here, still Schrodinger's Cadet Candidate.
There is still an entire week of April before us. The Appointments process must be in overdrive to complete the class of 2022.
My #3's BFE did not arrive on the doorstep on 24 April last year. He had no warning that it was coming, no phone call, no correspondence.
If you are still waiting, just stay positive and consider all possibilities. Do not be afraid to commit to your Other Plan A--even if it you risk losing $300--although if you receive an appointment before 1 May, you can email the Other Plan A and request a refund, with the knowledge that some happy student will rise up off the waiting list.
Have a great weekend.

So last year when the BFE arrived on April 24, your son had not heard from his MOC nor had his portal updated?
What an amazing surprise!

What does the “schrodingers cadet” reference mean?

It’s a play on the phrase Schrödinger’s cat.

What does the “schrodingers cadet” reference mean?
It's a reference to the Schrodinger cat paradox. From Wikipedia...
Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935.[1] It illustrates what he saw as the problem of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics applied to everyday objects. The scenario presents a cat that may be simultaneously both alive and dead,[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] a state known as a quantum superposition, as a result of being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.
The cat was in a box and you couldn't know it's current state (alive or dead) until you looked into the box. In the sense used here, the box is still closed and you're unable to look in to determine the current state.

Yes. Nothing. No warning. A complete shock. BFE sitting on the doorstep in the rain. I confess that I screamed. (Perhaps I had been more uptight about this ten I would have admitted.) The boy was on his way home from a school trip to Italy. The prayers must have worked.

Then three days later on the 27th he received a TWE in the mailbox—I almost had a heart attack while waiting for him to come home from track. However it turned out to be a letter telling him to hurry up and accept his appointment.

@kinnem you understand me completely. It is the Unknown/No Way to Know. Mysterious and frustrating.

What a great story!
And I love the schrodingers reference!

@DrMom... wow! Is it possible that my DS actually received an appointment ?? But anyway, CGA was his #1 pick anyway! It looks to me that an error is possible! DS had a happy ending that why we didn’t pursue and questioned it! Interesting!!

DS received TWE via email/portal/US mail last month. Out of the blue DS received email notification at 7:30am pacific time about appointment at WP. DS checked his portal and asked me to review it to make sure it is correct. And yes, it is correct he has 10 days to accept appointment. We are still pinching our skin and waiting for the West Coast field officer to confirm it is authentic. May be USNA would do the same?

@Litoman Congratulations to your son and your entire family. If you are on Facebook, you should look for the Class of 2022 official class page--it will be your best source of information direct from the wonderful OFFICIAL West Point Parent Liaison. (You do not know her name now, but you will soon.) Also, if your son's mother (your wife) is on FB, she can join the West Point Moms page...definitely not official but there are 5000 moms who offer advice and assistance at a moment's notice...and we share an odd obsession with helping incoming cadet parents ensure the cadet candidate shows up with just the right type and number of socks--all packed in 2 gallon zip lock bags for the move from civilian duffel bag to official Army duffel bag. (It is a ridiculously wonderful network.)

@Cdkd Congratulations to your son. Why do you want him to be a squid when he can go to West Point? Go with Plan A. (ARMY) (Go Army!)

I will say Goodbye and Great Luck to all. We have just found out that my DS did not get in. So very disappointing, but it is still Go Army with Plan B, and I’ll get to see him more often as he is only a State away. Just wish they had let us down earlier. Still haven’t heard from them.

Same here... His regional Commander let him know today and it was in his portal last night. Trying to decide is he wants to go AROTC at UNG or prep at Marion. His RC says he should for sure reapply. He wants to-I'm not sure I can go through it again-- but of course I will if that's what he wants. Good luck to your son.

My DS will go onto ROTC at a good school. Just want to thank everybody on here, but to say that the advice of, you have until May 1 and if you haven’t heard, you’re still in the running, is not necessarily correct. We have received nothing and nothing on portal. His FFR has known for awhile and told us a letter will be coming in a couple of weeks. They should at least give the kids a chance to connect with their a Plan B if they have known that the others in the district have already excepted. 1 May is universal for colleges and I don’t know why there is such a delay in notifying.

UNG has a great program. Mine reapplied from there and was admitted early in the cycle. Good luck you your son.

@Patterndesigner I feel your frustration in having to wait so long. My DS did not hear until 4/23 via official TWE that he did not get an appointment. We had reached out prior to that because we had an overnight visit scheduled for 4/25. Our RC told us it was not likely that he would get an appointment on 4/14 but portal did not update until 4/20. I will tell you that in the last two weeks I have seen my DS embrace his plan B which is a AROTC 4 year scholarship at a great college. Our family has been relieved and greatful for the final answer to this long journey. We have also been reminded by many supporters including @DrMom that this appointment does not define him or his success. All of these candidates wether they received the BFE or the TWE are amazing young people who have great futures in front of them!

@mom3boys Thank you! He is all set with Temple ROTC.

@NPmom Yes you are quite right. Just need to switch gears. It’s still all about serving his country! We knew with 7 nominations it wasn’t going to be easy. And yes, they are all great kids. Thank you for your encouraging words.

So my RC Tech just said I've been queued Academically, but there is no real date that I can expect the waiver authority to do anything. So just wait until that clears up. I just hope this deadline isn't May 1st like everyone says.
