April AROTC Board

Well, PMS from #1 school called today.
Said he got ds' grades(up to 3rd quarter) and AP scores(from last 3 years)-I mailed them last week.
They liked what they saw :shake:
Just got to get out to orientation next week-do the interview and APFT and......I think we will have good news to report.

By the way, PMS said he could not understand why ds didn't get a national scholarship:confused:

Doesn't matter at this point-end result will be the same. Just nice to know they thought he deserved one.:thumb:

DS is smiling-that means he's happy.

Finally got the "I regret to inform you...." letter today.
It still says "you have been selected for an interview" on the status board.

DS leaves for orientation tomorrow. APFT and interview for campus scholarship happens Wednesday bright and early at 0630.

Good luck in the interview! I hope it all works out for you and your son.

We finally received the 'regret to inform you' on the scholarship letter as well. I thought it was fitting (the way this whole process has drug out) that we had just arrived home from the 2-day college orientation and dropping our son off to ship-out for BT when we finally got the letter. If we had not gone to Plan B back in February, he wouldn't have been able to get going with the Reserves this summer for the SMP program.

On a side note, the in-state school he ended up at is turning out to be a great Plan B. We learned lots at orientation, including they are consistently ranked in the top 8% of all Army ROTC programs and are the top one in the state. They are also 15 minutes away from an Army training facility, so they have more opportunities for underclassmen. Bottom line is it all turns out in the end, no matter what route you take.

Although it was pretty tough sending an 18-year-old off to boot camp!

One additional thing, the PMS told us the previous year scholarships were offered at their college for applicants with 3.3 GPA and 22 ACT. This year they were 3.56 GPA and 27 ACT, so the bar was definitely raised this year.

Well, the good news is that after all this time and in spite of cold, rainy weather this morning ds passed his APFT and has finally been told that he is being chosen for a 4-yr campus scholarship!:shake::shake::shake:
The official confirmation will be sent to us in the mail in about a week.

Looks like he will be a very good fit with this cadre and school. It's the one we wanted from day 1. I'm very pleased-we've worked long and hard on this one.
Even big brother is proud.

I'm glad it's working out so well for you all.

Boot camp-what an adventure for him. The stories he will have to tell and the interesting people and personalities he will meet. He'll come back with some interesting perspectives and he'll be glad he's chosen to be an officer. I'm sure he will do just fine.

Wow!!! Awesome news! Congrats on having all the hard work pay off. Now take a breath and enjoy the summer!

Thanks everybody.
I'm sure we wouldn't have been able to confidently pursue this without the help and advice from this forum. It's been a blessing.:thumb:
