April is a great month!

The USNA Catalogue lists Area Coordinators

And last but not least, how would I find out how many BGO's are in Arizona? Thanks in advance and keep the faith.

To amplify on the previous post, the USNA Catalogue lists Area Coordinators for the States and territories. Here is the latest on line:

We wait still. No mail yet today, as our regular letter carrier appears to be on vacation. Son's application was completed September 4, 2008.

I received my TWE today. Though my BGO informed me last Wednesday of it's imminence!

Good luck to all who got waitlisted, I will not be reapplying as I have an incredibly strong desire to receive that commission in 4 years, even with one year not meaning much in the grand scheme of things.

Regional Director says the number of candidates waitlisted cannot be disclosed, even with the previous classes.

From a post here:

From CollegeData.com 2006. Thought this was interesting.

Admission Rates
Overall Admission Rate 11% of 10,747 applicants were admitted
Students Enrolled 1,191 (97%) of 1,228 admitted students enrolled

Admission Rate
Students Offered Wait List: 100
Students Accepting Wait List Position: 85
Students Admitted from Wait List: 15

Great! I thought I have to wait without some statistics.
Thanks!

15 out of 85 is 18% admittance...

Just to let you know, my son finished his application in October. We've been waiting for 6 months. I would say work your tail off in school, athletics, and leadership. When all is said and done, if you have done everything you can do, it is in the hands of admissions. It is breaking my heart to see all of you post bad news. I am praying someone post good news soon.

I'm curious of a few things: the few that found out before your letter, how were you notified? When was your letters sent out (Thurs. or Fri.)? And last but not least, how would I find out how many BGO's are in Arizona? Thanks in advance and keep the faith.
AZMOM, regarding your question about how my son found out before getting his wait list letter on Saturday...last week I contacted the service academy coordinator for one of our senators. She spoke to her nominations contact in Washington, who relayed the message that my son was on the wait list.

More Bad News!

Another reject letter here in SC! My son aspired to a military career that would lead to law and government service (later) but the USNA thought otherwise. Instead, he will take the civilian college road into the world of law and (hopefully) politics with no interruptions. This forum has been such a lifeline! I am shocked that there is nothing but bad news at the end. It seems unnecessary to keep so many waiting for so long. All good wishes and prayers for future success for you all.

My son got his TWE today here in Central Jersey. It's been a long road from last summer, more for me I think. In the end he will be attending Drexel U with a NROTC scholarship and he has already sent in the preliminary app on April 1 for USNA class of 2014 and his info has been transfered to his new app. So off we go again. Who knows, he may just want to stay with Drexel. So we go to tour the unit and college this week and start working towards next year. Good luck to all that got that letter but in the end keep on reaching towards your dream. A two star Admiral told me last year, yep a USNA grad, but in 37 years in the NAVY, no one ever asked him where he got his commission from. Good luck again and hope to meet everyone next year at plebe summer. Go Navy!

It has been long journey here too - son completed his application in august, school sent transcript in september, pres nom, 3q'd letter in november, then
my son returned from crew camp for spring break to the thin envelope - letter was dated 8th,mailed the 9th, and was on our mail pile on the 10th.
at beginning of month his BGO continued his positive talk - soooo disappointing. Unless some miracle happens, son plans to follow backup plan nrotc at vmi and reapply for 2014. Heartbreaking - vmi doesn't have crew! Our sincere congrats to all you lucky ones -

Thanks for the responses to my questions. My son's BGO emailed him today, and he is waitlisted for NAPS. I can't even imagine what the waitlist will be like for NAPS. He would take the offer in a heart beat. He is such a perfectionist (like so many SA applicants/students), that he wants to be successful at the Academy, and not just get by. He feels that year at prep would be great for him.

His BGO emailed the last 9 candidates (41 had been rejected or withdrew), and informed them of the April 15 deadline. I was trying to figure out how many districts there were in AZ, because his BGO had two districts, the other officer had to go over seas. Nothing better to do then get more stressed out.

Thanks for bearing with this stressed MOM! Just think, I get to go through this again in 7 years, when my now 11 yr. applies for USNA. No pressure, but I told him he has to get an LOA, and better have his appointment before the end of the year (2016). No pressure.

Does your son's BGO say when he'll be notified further regarding a place at NAPS? And if so, under what conditions? Is it if another student declines their offer to attend NAPS? I hope he gets his appointment to NAPS!!

My son also received TWE in today's mail. It has been a bad couple of days, because he received TWE from the Coast Guard Academy on Friday. We are still waiting to hear from the Air Force Academy, but aren't optimistic. He did receive a Type 1 scholarship for Air Force ROTC, so we are going back to visit the ROTC units at both Purdue and Ohio State University next week. Thanks to everyone on this forum for all your encouragement. I wish I would have found this forum before starting the application process, it would have made the process a lot easier. If I only knew then what I know now ;-)

My daughter received her "wait list" letter today. She is still really disappointed, but understands that the door has not closed completely.

She'll press on with Purdue/NROTC and look forward to the class of 2014. She's not going down without a fight.

MPKN's son's journey for USNA class of 2013 ended yesterday, too. The disappointment is great, as many here can attest. But the plan Bs are still great options by anyone's standard, and I see that many on this board can say the same. Good luck to everyone! I know these kids are going to make their mark and succeed where ever they attend school!

My son asked those very questions to his BGO, and replied that he has never been in this position before with his candidates (NAPS, Waitlisted). He is going to try and get more information regarding the waitlist. Whether or not he will be able to give us that information is a different story. We pray he gets the appointment, as well.

I want to say "thanks" for all the nice comments. And I truly hope there is goods news today. Yesterday was rough. You read so many post for months, and you feel like you know these kids and their dreams and when it doesn't happen for them; it is heartbreaking. I'll post any information my son receives. By the way, out of the nine candidates left this is the status: 1 Appt. USNA, 1 NAPS, 1 Waitlist USNA, 3 Waitlist NAPS, 2 Fully Q and no word yet, 1 Rejected. Good Luck to everyone

Daughter was fully qualified with her nomination but got the thin letter yesterday (dated the 8th). Really shook her up but will settle into NROTC instead.
