Over a four-year period, midshipmen are expected to participate in varsity athletics, club sports or intramurals. The Academy encourages this participation to help midshipmen remain physically fit, learn from the challenges of athletic competition, and develop a lifetime commitment to healthy physical activity. For midshipmen who choose not to participate at the varsity or club level, there are ample opportunities to join intramural activities. Company Officers are responsible for monitoring midshipmen to ensure that all students are taking advantage of the diverse athletic opportunities that the Academy offers

All Academies require participation in sports; either Inter-collegiate, Intramural, or club sports. Not only for the physical fitness aspects, but the teamwork demensions. You don't have to be an athlete to attend and academy, but you will be an athlete at an academy
Also here is the daily schedule, with 3 hours dedicated to athletics and extracurricular activities.
