Are there any successful mental health waivers?

I was in AFROTC but was DQ'd due to history of mood disorder + history of anxiety disorder. Was on medication for less than a year and have currently been off for 9 months. Was cleared by psychiatrist at last appointment 9 months ago of having no symptoms and being okay off the medication. AFROTC would not consider a waiver until 3 years of being off the medication. Contacted AROTC and they said they would submit a waiver for me as soon as a year has passed.

I know these things are on a case-by-case basis, but is there any hope for me? Any success stories for getting these waivers approved? I have not seen many at all looking online.

Yes.
But, in the Army now, AROTC and West Point, the waiver authority has been removed from the Commanding General AROTC and the Superintendent at West Point for these DQs. It now has to be approved by the Secretary of the Arm's Director of Military Personnel Management, which means the process takes a little longer :wiggle:

Thank you for your reply! Is there anything I can do on my end that might help my chances of getting a waiver approved i.e. getting re-evaluated by a psychiatrist, writing a personal letter...? DoDMERB already has all my files regarding the mood + anxiety disorder.

sidewayshat - Generalities, only attract general answers, which don't help anyone. You've now asked a specific question and I can only provide and educated response with your specifics. Send me an email to Lawrence.e.mullen.civ@mail.mil; include complete name and last 4; paste both postings to your email :wiggle:

Apologies for the delayed reply, should I still email although the AROTC program at my host school says they will pursue a waiver for me? I am not a cadet in the program but they are aware of my interest + have my information. I just want to make sure I am not stepping on any toes.

If you are not a cadet in the program, they won't deal in hypotheticals.
Google "DoDMERB"
Hit "Questions about the Process"
Read paragraphs 18...14-17 :wiggle:
