Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Test in ROTC?

Hello,

I know I'm a bit behind, but I was just made aware of a standardized test called the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). I have a few questions regarding the test:

1. Do cadets in ROTC take the ASVAB?
2. How difficult is the ASVAB in comparison to the SAT/ACT?
3. What should I do to prepare for the ASVAB?

The ASVAB is used primarily for enlisted selection. It can be used on a ROTC application (I think) but the colleges you apply to want the ACT or SAT scores anyway, so you might as well use that for your ROTC application and forget you ever heard of the ASVAB. Besides, not all services use the ASVAB. AF and Navy have their own tests.

If you want to go to college and become a military officer (you didn’t say which branch you are interested in) through the ROTC program put the ASVAB out of your mind. You do not need to take it. Prep for your SAT and/or ACT. It is a good tool to give you some idea about future careers, but it is not a part of the ROTC process for high school students.

(Having already taken the SAT, I really did not want to prep for another standardized test!)

Try the ACT. Some folks do better on that. Also, there is free online prep stuff. Khan Academy has some free tests. Practice often helps.

Oh.

I've already taken the SAT and got a 1510.

After taking it multiple times I couldn't push my score any higher, so I think I'm done with standardized tests...for now.

1480 would put you in the 98th or 99th percentile. Also an amazing score!
