Army Food Allergy Waiver

Would the Army provide a medical waiver for a minor food allergy that I was diagnosed with when I was 11? I was prescribed a Epi-pen but have never had to use it..

Cessna -- Our experience is that the Army (both USMA and AROTC) have given medical waivers in the past for certain food allergies. The Army takes into account the particular food, and the type of reaction you have had, along with other circumstances in order to determine whether to grant the waiver. It is also our experience the AF does not grant such waivers. Not certain about the Navy.

Would you know if a anaphylactic allergy to Black Walnuts and Cashews would be Waiverable?

It depends on the severity . . . some allergist classify "hives" as an anaphylactic reaction . . . any reaction is enough for the AF to deny the waiver . . . we have found the Army is much more reasonable . . .

If you require an epi pen to save your life after eating black walnuts and cashews, you will not get a waiver. However, if the allergic reaction is not severe or life threatening, then you may be able to get a waiver with the Army.
