I ask here because DD's FFR said it had to be honor unit with distinction - but I don't agree. This would be for a nomination to West Point ONLY.

DD's JROTC instructor is very willing to fill out the ROTC Nomination form 5-497 found on the West Point website, but wants to get extra extra confirmation that he is allowed to do this given their Army JROTC is NOT and Honor Unit with Distinction. I'm not sure i'm using the terms correctly, but basically not honors (which he emphasized over and over), not distinction.

The form under the first category ROTCJR seems to be the answer. West Point website says the same. Past forum posts seem to indicate no change to the categories and thus allowed.
Category: ROTCJR "The candidate is enrolled in an Army JROTC program at the institution listed."

The other question on the ROTC Nomination form:
"SAT scores: Best Critical Reading/Best Math/Best Writing"
It is so confusing when they say Reading - to me that means the 2 digit number (xx/40) not the EBRW number (xxx/800) , is that correct?

Ok! Answered my own question!
DD just texted and after a few back and forths, FFR confirmed she falls under ROTCJR, he wasn't aware she was in ARMY JROTC!
She is going to show Form to GC sometime during school to confirm the SAT portion.

Hello it's me again on my thread!

You would think a simple 2 page form should not deserve this many posts, but here I am again!

DD got her form back and thank goodness the SGT did not seal it, but rather just gave it to her unfolded. He did not fill in the last box which says this, and the captial letters exactly as the form shows:

INTERVIEWER'S COMMENTS:
If work or family problems have affected this applicant's performance, please make special annotation below. Also comment on BEARING and APPEARANCE, PERSONAL MAGNETISM, how applicant became interested in West Point and applicant's reasons for wanting to attend West Point.

I think it should be filled out, even if the first sentence does not apply. I showed DH at dinner, and he glanced at it and handed it back to me and said, Nope, nothing like that. I said, keep reading! He said, OH.....yes, this should be filled out. DD is going to give it back to Sgt and ask him to fill it out. She is also giving him her essay on Why West Point? and it actually talks alot about...Sgt! "Sgt is my role model...he encouraged me xx". Daww....he'll love reading it!

Looking for positive confirmation that yes, that bottom part should be filled out. I'll put 1 in that column for myself.

Bear with me as I overthink this. But you would too if your DD/DS had an LOA and just needs a nomination, especially a possible nom that is directly in your control!

Oh boy mark me in your column too. Perhaps he did as your DH did? Good strategy to include the essay as well. Make sure and update!

It appears that JROTC units don't need to be honor unit w/ distinction if they are nominating to same service academies. That is, AJROTC unit doesn't need to be honor unit to nominate a cadet to WP, but it would have to be honor unit to nom to USAFA or USNA.
