Army-Navy game: White Power hand symbol appears to be used during pregame broadcast

From Wall Street Journal today:

Cadets, Midshipmen Were Not Flashing ‘White Power’ Signs, Investigators Say - West Point cadets, Navy midshipmen were playing pranks during Army-Navy game and had no extremist intent, according to review

Good news. And it's even better that they investigated so that the issue can truly be put to rest. However, I'm still concerned that kids attending a selective school are still playing a middle school game. :)

Be professional, in uniform, in public. Enough said.

so is yelling against your opponent 'unprofessional?' No seriously, WTF does 'be professional' at a ballgame that is basically a celebration of the academies mean and why in the holy hell would engaging in an innocent game to make your peers laugh be a violation of said professionalism?
I can't yell at my competition in the business world arena...is that the line we're toeing in ' being professional?'
How about holding up signs openly disparaging my competition on national TV? Is that professional behavior?

It's a freaking football game...and the Cadets/ Mids did nothing wrong.

I bet they don’t do it again.

The SAs will determine acceptable behavior. The cadets and midshipmen will follow orders.

No doubt. If circle game is off the board, the students won't engage in it.

In the end, it's about people who can't stand others having an ounce of fun, regardless of how innocent it might be. It's moronically dangerous to be setting this precedent as well.

Might as well play the games without fans or TV coverage. Pretend it's a funeral...in a library... everyone must be solemn and sad at all times...

Only nobody will be there to display said happiness. Then the goal will truly have been achieved. SMDH.

I'm thinking of this from the lens of being a Marine. There's such a thing as fun while in uniform, and fun while in civilian clothes. They have never been the same, and they never will be. That's what I was taught, anyway.

Now, if the Navy or Army want to relax those rules, that's okay with me. If people want to write their representatives in Congress and let them know that it's much better for teenage Cadets and Midshipmen to let their hair down in public and play silly games, then they should feel free to do that too. I fully support their freedom to do so. Seriously, I do.

I would venture to say that it's never going to be okay with the Marine Corps, and that part makes me feel good.

How high is your horse, brother?
I participated in what would otherwise be considered assault as a Marine in uniform. It was celebrated. Repeatedly/
Am I to assume you never got promoted/ became an NCO? It was expected and absolutely 'okay.'

You are not comparing apples to apples with regard to "acceptable behavior," certainly with regard to being on national TV and flashing an innocent hand gesture to make one's peers laugh.

You and others speak as if the cadets/mids were engaged in some unspeakably horrendous behaviour but the fact of the matter is that its a harmless joke and in this case, prank. There is nothing unbecoming of it and I guarantee if the SJWs of the world had not shed so much negative attention on it, no one would care. Although perception is important, and sometimes even more important than the truth, I would argue the vast majority of civilized, reasonable people understand it to be a classic joke. Should SAs really care about what a small, small minority of people think? Again, benefit of the doubt..always assuming people are doing something wrong. I didnt even know it had been hijacked by a SMALL minority of white supremacists until this news hit. I guess all officers and ensign are now duty bound to correct Soldiers playing this old joke?
