Army/Navy game, who's going?

it was freezing but worth it.

my seats were right behind the Y of NAVY in the navy endzone. front row. got some camera time too i think.

great game NAVY!

Come on, it wasn't THAT cold (unless you were in the upper part of the upper deck and had the wind blowing on you.). I dressed in layers and, while not warm, was never freezing -- and I'm usually cold. I do wish Navy had had the sunny side of the stadium, however.

I thought the funniest part was the stadium announcer, who was horrendous. His opening announcement was [and I quote]:

"Good afternoon, ladies and gentleman. Welcome to PSI.net stadium."

Of course, it's now M&T Bank stadium and has been for about two years. Oops. :yllol:

Later, he introduced the WP supe as the "Superintendent of the Naval Academy."

And, he had a unique ability to tell us what happened on the play about 30 seconds after it had happened. For example: penalty flag thrown; ref indicates the penalty; ref walks off the penalty. And then, from above, "There was a flag on the play."

BTW, does anyone know why for A/N games the march-ons are always so early? I assume it's traffic, given the 200-odd buses that descend on the city. But still, people who don't know probably missed it. Or had to spend an extra 90 minutes in the cold in order to see it.

A lot of people are there for the football, not so much the pageantry. As for it being cold, I'm a good deal older than you, and my circulation is getting a little challenged. I was cold.

I was toasty. No problem. Hands got a little cold after the game while tailgating, but not problem.

I can empathize with being cold. Last year it was cold and we got there very early to see the march on.
I was dressed in layers, parka etc but we sat up high and it was windy and the cold just went through. Once you get a little cold it is difficult to warm up without going inside.....

I am shooting for club level where I can go inside if I need to!

And a lot are also there for the pageantry. We rode over in a cab w/a couple who'd come from CA. They had no obvious ties to USNA (i.e., not grads, parents, etc.). They were VERY disappointed to learn that they'd miss the Army march-on even though they left the hotel at 9:30 for a 12:20 kickoff.

I'm only curious as to the early hour at this game as compared to USNA home games, when march-on starts 30 minutes prior to the game (rather than 2 1/2 hours prior for A/N).

I was trying to be a bit humorous in my comments about the weather. Actually, I WAS warm enough. However, our guests were pretty cold.

Gotta love you tube. Its the only way I got to see a little of it. Nothing like it in all the world to me. You lucky ducks that were there. Especially for the signing of the school songs at the end. I did catch that part live on tv & yikes it gave me chills and it was 70 here!

I used to know. Honestly. And it made sense. But I forgot. Getting old sucks.

I was on the sunny side of the stadium. We were peeling layers off. I never needed gloves or a hat. And that expensive really warm jacket will get some use in Chicago, but was pointless at the game. thought it was the best football day I could imagine - at least the weather.

Absolutely everyone I talked to would rather have the game in Baltimore than Philly. The weather was better. The city is clean. The Harbor area is very cool. How about all the Army and Navy toys? We had a blast (no pun intended) on Friday with boats, helicopters, jeeps, humvees, throwing footballs, meeting Sgt. Tommy Rieman (one of the Army action figures is modeled after him), and playing shooting games.

And I finally learned how to use all these cute icons. They tell the story of the weekend. Except for this: "Wait 'til next year!!"

Did the full tourist thing in 2000 with kiddo, his wife, and about a half dozen classmates. We stayed at a quaint old hotel just up the street from Harborside. The city literally rolled out the red carpet. Everyone who had anything to do with tourism wore "Welcome Army and Navy" T-Shirts. They truly made us all feel welcome. On Monday morning the BS was filled with letters to the editor from Woop grads who, nearly to a person, said they would gladly give up their "home" game in the Meadowlands for an extra "away" game in B'more. And then the next year, I think, the rail broke at the Vet and all the cadets tumbled onto the field. Philadelphia got serious and gave the academies a deal they could not refuse.

Just stayed in DC this year and drove up. Never again. It took over two hours to get back to my roomie's house in NoVa. And then we went to the Redskin-Buffalo game Sunday. Bah humbug.
