Army-Navy Game

I have a boy who is intrested in walking on next season..
But not sure how it all works.. He is currently a plebe

I'm aware of at least one, who played his first game Saturday!

Up the Middle is 1st Option

They chew up yardage on the option roll outs, but yet they insist on fullback up the middle???? Coach, KEEP RUNNING THE OPTION UNTIL THEY PROVE THEY CAN STOP IT!!!! FRUSTRATING! Trust your players to do what they do best. GO ARMY!!

Fullback up the middle is the first option the QB has. It also keeps the inside LBs honest so the options outside has a better chance to roll. Keep in mind the option attack can be high risk as there can be more exchanges of the ball and the fumbles that come with them. Believe me, we Oklahoma fans know about that from the option hey-days of the 70s and 80s. Yeah, Army was driving and pressing hard for the TD. However, if the prior FG attempt was made by Army, they probably would not have had to press so hard for a TD and could have won on another FG attempt. I think CBS was over-the-top spotlighting Steelman's reactions after the fumble and game. Since I've never been a multi-year starter for an NCAA Div I team, carrying the hopes of teammates, alums, WP and countless fans, I can't imagine the emotions he must have felt as his Alma Mater was being played after the game. I'll remember Steelman as a young athlete who gave all he had and cared very much. Being a WP'er says a lot about him also. Happy Holidays...

“We should all be proud as Americans that that guy is going to go protect our country,” Niumatalolo explained in his own press conference. “They don’t get any tougher than Trent Steelman. Four years starting at West Point, a military service academy. I know everyone in our locker room has nothing but respect for that young man.”

Lots of Monday morning armchair QBs here. Get a life! The game is over.

I am a West Point graduate and a loyal Army fan. I am not a mean person and I do not feel I am being overly critical.

Steelman had a great career stastically due to his many games and I wish him well in his Army career. However, I believe he was 0-4 against Navy and 1-3 against AF. In many games he made great plays but he clearly had significant trouble game-after-game with fumbles. I would rather have a stastically less capable QB that protects the ball.

I was in the Army 35 years. If any commander in the Army was as unsuccessful as this coach they would have NO CHANCE of keeping thier job.

One additional point that I have learned from a long Army career which included several combat tours. Champions make the play at the critical time. Others make mistakes at the critical time.

Seconded.

I am assuming Steelman never intentionally fumbled. I also assume that he gave 100%. I won't fault a soldier that gave 100%. I might reassign him.

Let us not forget, it is football afterall. Coach Ellerson is not a general.

I do not want to blame everything on one player. Other Army players fumbled, missed blocks, missed tackles etc.

I NEVER said that Steelman intentionally fumbled. I NEVER said that he did not give 100%. I DID say that champions find a way to be at their best at critical moments - others do not. I have seen this all my life in combat, olympics, sports games, life etc. Champions find a way to win.

The coach is not a General but he is in a leadership position. He must take responsibility for the failures in the team. Well coached teams find ways to win against teams with similar quality players. Leaders ae judged by results - including football coaches.
