And in solidarity with their ‘brothers and sisters in arms’, USAFA and USMA have participated in the ‘great printer toss’. Old Goats have sent printers 🖨 to Mids to toss as well.
Seriously, it would be neat to research these kinds of things. How does the rallying point item become the icon for a movement?
The story, at least in part of the printer toss becoming the symbol of the year, is the fact that to replace the ink costs more than a new printer. These are outdated in that sense, and therefore useless. Plus they are not reliable, break often. All this according to Mids. My oldest’s hasn’t worked since he got it plebe year. And warranty? Ya, right. Reality is tech support/warranty is a bust. And they are ‘required’ to purchase this out dated, over priced piece of junk that doesn’t work. Again, according to my Mids. Printer frustration is a thing. Hence the perfect icon for ‘20 frustration. BTW, my guys still have theirs, working and non.
The SUPER FUNNY thing to DH and myself, is that when we took our plebe out to Usna this past June, we were walking around the Yard as detailers were preparing for the incoming class. We saw flatbed carts of stacked PRINTERS being pushed across they yard. One Mid trying to push and manage and balance flatbed, stacked 2 or 3 high, across rocks in the road they can’t see, etc. Guess what happens? The ones on the edges fall of. To the concrete. Little did we know we were getting a glimpse into the future
They were in boxes, but they landed hard. Those ones would probably have some damage. We all commented that we hoped they would work ok. Obviously not.
