Army plans to cut 40,000 troops

Army Aviation is already doing the 9 month rotations and will soon start the same rotations in Europe, while they are decreasing the number of permanent AV troops in Europe, they are keeping the hardware just like they are in Korea. This is going to mean more rotations. I can see how that will begin to put a strain on families in the future.

If they do in fact start sending NG troops on these rotations I think you'll begin to see a harder recruitment and retention environment in the NG. It will be tough on Guard members to find and keep good employment if they are sent on regular rotations.

Could be wrong but it was just a thought.

Okay, but if they double down on tanks, aka a 2nd brigades worth of tanks, while they cut the force in Europe, doesn't it mean a lot more deployments?

Please understand, I am trying to learn here. Mathematically it says to me cut personnel, increase overseas equates to more deployments for those left serving..

Sounds like it. Times are changing... I think we're really just shifting somewhat. In the past everyone's cycles built up to a deployment to the sandbox. Now, the optempo isn't really slowing down, but the deployments are now either to the sandbox, Europe, or Africa (and Korea too). Granted, this is just my tiny view from my perspective, but being fresh out of BOLC and a good portion of my classmates are about to join units headed for NTC and then overseas to one of those regions. From the little TV news I watch, you would think that not much is going on, but everyone's busy and going somewhere.

Also understand that a decent number of cuts are coming from reducing 2-star command HQs by 25%. Those reductions aren't really affecting deployments too much as they swelled in the past few years.

Pima, none of the above is directed solely at you, I'm just getting back to having enough free time to read and post, and my posts in this thread are just my basic cherry understanding of what's going on.

There haven't been tankers in Europe for years. It doesn't matter how much they cut from USAREUR. The equipment is prepositioned for CONUS-based troops ala REFORGER.
