The results for the first scholarship board are now official, however there is a technical error with the application showing a student's scholarship status as "unknown". Some of those listed as unknown have a scholarship offer, and some do not. It is currently being worked on. 317 scholarships were awarded and notification letters will be sent out in the next couple of weeks. ROOs have been authorized to contact winners. Good luck.

Will all winners be notified today from their ROO’s?

Mohawk, how does acceptance work?

Congratulations to all who were selected. Take a few days to savior your incredible accomplishment. For those still waiting keep in mind the vast majority of the offers are done on the second and third boards. In the meantime peruse this forum for information, the answer to virtually EVERY question you could possibly have has been addressed on the board in the past, use the search function. This time of year the ROOs’ that post and help here are about to be incredibly busy. I trust they will chime in when and if necessary. Stay focused, healthy and out of trouble!

You will get a packet in the mail and then have 30 days to choose your school and send in your acceptance. As you'll see, there are some disadvantages to being given the scholarship on the 1st board because numerous recipients are going to have to choose their ROTC school before they are officially accepted to the school. Then when they aren't accepted down the road, they will have to contact Cadet Command to get their school choice changed. It probably works out just fine 95% of the time but every year, you read about the process not working out for somebody.

The other thing you have to deal with (which will all be explained in the packet you receive) is the DoDMERB health screening process. You will read about numerous kids having issues with past medical problems that will hold up the process. Most of the time, they just need to see the medical records to verify the the issue is no longer a problem. For example, my son broke both ankles in high school so we have to show that he was fully recovered and cleared to participate in all activities. Some issues will be more serious and you may actually need a medical waiver before you can be part of ROTC. My daughter went through that and actually had her scholarship pulled in April. We had to apply for the waiver and go to Plan B while we waited...and waited...and waited. Luckily for us, she heard back in June that her waiver had been approved. Her boyfriend had to wait OVER A YEAR for his waiver to be approved by the Air Force so he ended up paying for his Freshman year of college on his own and NO, there is no reimbursement for that.

My son was a 3 year winner LAST year. He just got an email saying there was an update to his Dashboard. However when he tried to login he got a "locked out" error.

Could this be part and parcel of the same issues you are talking about?

MohawkArmyrotc, Thank you for keep us up to date. My sons status just got changed. He got the 4 year scholarship to top 3 schools. Im so proud, excited for him. Now just waiting to hear if he gets accepted into his #1 school WHOOOO HOOOOO!
As K2Rider mentions above, he will have to accept his scholarship to one of those schools on the list, even if he has not gotten an admissions decision to his preferred college. I would have his contact the school that he wants to go with and insure they know about the 4-year AROTC scholarship. Having to wait for highly selective schools to make their decisions when you know you have already been awarded and accepted a scholarship, it pure torture. We were so glad our DD had applied Early Action to her school, so at least she found out by Christmas that she had gotten in. I can't imagine that wait that some have until April decisions come out.

Thanks Mohawk; I always think about those on the other end, who did not get the first round scholarship. Do not despair. The kids selected in the first round also turn out to be competitive for other ROTC scholarships and as someone once told me, "These are the kids who end up attending West Point" (if they are applying, this is the level of competition). So...do not be sad, do not be sorry--focus on finals, focus on fitness, complete your college applications--and recognize that early November is really still the first set of miles in the marathon. There is a lot of time, a lot of changes yet to come, and a lot of potential for a scholarship during the second and third rounds--or even selectively from your ROO and program. It is a marathon, not a sprint.

My son received a scholarship according to his portal, but we've not received a call from anyone. Unusual??

My son didn't receive a call either. He wrote to the program he will accept and they wrote back. There is good dialogue between the two now.
