Army ROTC offers

Looks like offers are starting to populate in CCIMS. Recommend you be a little patient, and don't read anything into DODMERB status or other indicators. Letter in the mail with an offer to one or more schools is the only official offer you will receive. That call from the ROO may or may not be accurate. I'll let you all know when I hear that letters have been mailed.

Now...commence he low hover!

How long will it take to go through all of the notifications? A few days? What will the status site say if you haven't been chosen on the Jan board? Will it remain the same or indicate that you weren't picked up on the Jan board but hang on for the next one?

Thanks

No one really knows. There's not a large staff to do this stuff. I would assume the answer is at least days, perhaps longer.

Again, one never knows, but based on past experience you will see no change. YMMV.

In the past there was a chance that you could trade a 4 year at a State School for a 3 year AD to a more expensive Private.
I don't think that was the case... I think it was that the Awardee was offered, in some cases, the OPTION of choosing between a 4 yr. In-State Public or a 3 Yr. AD to a Private... and this was in the offer letter. I don't think there was ever an option to trade, or upgrade, from 4 Yr. In-State Public to 3 Yr. AD at Private. Actually 3 Yr. AD to most Privates probably costs the Army 2 - 3 times what the ave. In-State Public would cost. (Tuition/Fees/Books/Stipend)

Actually it happened a lot a couple years ago and to a few applicants last year. There were some criteria that needed to be met in some cases. Transferring to a school that was in the same brigade helped, some of it depended on the cost of the Private.

The letter that came in the mail just listed the schools offered and how many years the scholarship was for, my son's listed four 4 year and one 3 year. After the first board the number of schools decreased in the offers which led to a flurry of transfer requests. There were quite a few that posted last year that they were able to transfer to a different school that was not listed in the offer letter by switching from a 4 year to a 3 year AD, many of those were from State schools to Private schools.

That option may not be available this year since things seem to change from year to year but it is worth looking into if the need arises.

If it follows the previous years it will take about 4 plus day to get all the offers out with a few coming in after that.

If you do not receive a scholarship on this board your status page will remain as it is now and will not change.

OK, thanks. I'll try to be patient over the next few days then as we wait to see if my son's status changes...

I feel your pain, I had to go through this with both my son's, my fingernails just started growing back and then the next thing comes along.

Clarksonarmy... thanks for all your sage advice on this forum. I like your website, too. I have a question on the timeline for accepting an offer for an ARTOC Scholarship... DD is on the NWL at WP and also hoping for good news from the 09JAN AROTC Board. If offers from that board go out soon, the 30 days could elapse before WP's file completion date at the end of Feb. Do they ever consider extensions for kids who are waiting for their NWL status to shake out? She knows she will have to fish or cut bait at some point but, is there any chance they would give kids in this position some additional time?

DS status changed and has received an AROTC scholarship! He was one of those that was sent an early DoDMERB packet.
Congrat's to all!

CGBear--It is perfectly fine to accept an ROTC scholarship while awaiting a service academy appointment. Many people accept both and wait until the last minute to decide. You will find different philosophies on this forum about how long to wait to make a decision. Many people anticipate the unlikely event of breaking an ankle stepping off the bus at the SA when they report and hang onto the ROTC scholarship until June as a backup. Others believe you should reject one or the other offer soonest so someone else has the chance to take your spot. Either way, it is certainly okay to accept an ROTC scholarship while waiting for a SA decision. My DS accepted his NROTC scholarship and a SA appointment while on two other SA NWL's and did not decline the ROTC until mid-April. Best of luck to your DD!

That [upgrade to 3 yr AD] option may not be available this year since things seem to change from year to year but it is worth looking into if the need arises.
Thanks for clarifying. Yes, I agree it is worth looking into... CC can deny the request, and no harm, no foul.

Accepting one offer does not preclude you from also accepting other offers.

You should accept an Army ROTC Scholarship if it is offered. This is not binding. You have not yet signed the contract.

Later, if you are offered USMA or USNA or Navy ROTC Scholarships, accept those as well. I would also accept the merit scholarships from every private college that offered them. Say yes to the local public college just to be safe.

Then sit down with your son or daughter and go over every option. Make sure you understand the true costs involved. ROTC Scholarships only cover tuition and fees OR housing. Some but not all schools will offer free room and board to ROTC Scholarship winners. There is also the cost of being in ROTC. All the 0600 formations and late night phone calls and OPORD revisions.

After you have made a decision, call all the other options and tell them that you have reconsidered and will not be attending their school. Don't worry, they will find another way to use the money.

Scholarship

Son received an AROTC scholarship. I checked this morning--nothing. I checked this afternoon--there it was! Can't wait til he gets home!

How long did it take last year to get the letter in the mail after it was posted on the website? Days...weeks...months...?

BTW, with the merit scholarships my daughter received at the Private school, the tuition would be about the same as the state university. Plus, this Private School awards room & board scholarships to all rotc cadets. So it would be cheaper for us to attend the small private school instead of the state university. I'm hoping the Army sees it the same way.

My son received AROTC scholarship on the first board this year and I think it was about 10 days after it showed on the portal that the letter arrived. Congratulations.

Still Waiting

Any idea if more offers are going to come through over the next few days? We are anxiously waiting and have started seeing post about offers coming in from the January board. Just wondering when to stop checking and begin waiting for the next board in March.

It took at least 4 days for most of the offers to be made on the last board and last year as well. I would say that if you have not seen a status change by next Monday then His/Her application will probably be rolling over the the final board in March.

Good Luck

ditto what Jcleppe wrote... last year it took roughly three work days for CC to update their Status website.

I recall last April it took about four working days from the Status website change, to receiving the letter in the mail cross-country.

Will they still send a letter if you've been passed over for March?

No you will not receive a letter if you are not selected by this board.

Your status page will remain unchanged, there is no formal notification if you did not receive an offer from the board. The only notification you will receive if you do not receive a scholarship offer will come around May informing you that you were not offered, until then the status page will remain unchanged.
