I am currently a high school senior and am trying to get the rotc 4 year scholarship for the university of north georgia. I've just now completed the online application and have submitted my transcripts and other papers. I have some questions about the interview.
What kind of questions are going to be asked?
How do I turn negative questions around like "what are your weaknesses?"
Is a suit good to wear?
How early is on time?
And any other advice is greatly appreciated!

Jay,

I just completed my interview around 2 months ago, and I received the 4-year scholarship. They are going to ask you some base line questions like: why do you want to be in the army, what do you want to do in the army, tell me about your self and what you did in high school, what are some of your hobbies, what sets you apart from other candidates, why the army and not the navy or air force, and what can you bring to the table that other cannot?

My PMS did not ask me what are my weaknesses, but you can say something like that you are very "headstrong" and sometimes that means that you don't always take the views of others into account.

I did not wear a suite, I wore khaki dress pants, blue dress shirt, tie, and black dress shoes.

I would get there around 10-15 minutes in advanced, they will make you wait outside the PMS's office.

I know this may seem a bit overwhelming, but you'll get through it. Just be prepared and relax! If you want to call me or email me to ask me more questions feel free to send me a message.

Good luck!

thank you for the info! so it was an easy interview? it sounds like you described it as like a self explanatory question and answer type of thing. it wasnt hard questions that you need to prepare for? and where did you have your interview done at? a college?

Look online for anything regarding interview questions. For my Navy interview, I found a PDF with common questions asked and things to know; for my Air Force interview, I found the near-exact forms and questions that my interviewer ended up using. It was a great help in practicing. I wore dress shirt and pants and a sport coat and a tie. No more than 20 minutes early. Let the interviewer set the tone. Good luck! Most important factor: Nosce temet.

This isn't really one of your questions, but I think you could find it useful. Much like any other job interview, it's beneficial to show the interviewer that you know about the company you're looking to join. The army is a company, albeit with a different intent, but look at it like a job interview. Those questions that will probably be asked like why do you want to join the army, why the army and not another branch, so on and so forth, if you do a little reading about the army and its history, and then are able to articulate why you think you are a good match for the army, I think you will find it beneficial. It will also show the interviewer that you have done some homework on the company and you have a vested interest in them.

I'm not saying go read entire novels or memorize quotes or regulations, but get a general understanding of what the Army is, and why you think you should be a part of it.

Best of luck to you.

This is totally going to be school/PMS dependent. As long as you have a good reason why you want to be an Army Officer, and it doesn't include not wanting to have to pay for college and you are articulate in telling someone why you should do well in the interview. If you look at the interview score sheet (see link above) you'll see that the points on the front are not negotiable. You either have a 3.0 GPA or you don't. The points on page two are where your charm and poise will make or break you.

Thank you all so much! All of your advice paid off! It was easy and all went well! I just got back from the interview. I will post the sheet he used for if any of you might ever need it again. It was very relaxed and the guy I interviewed with was cool. It was almost like an ongoing conversation. and thanks again for all of your advice! It really helped!

Heres the interview sheet most of his questions came from. he did not ask all of them though. i found it very helpful to have a lot of leadership experience to earn you more points in the process.

Thanks so much for posting the interview form. My DD is a high school junior, but this form will help her to start documenting some of her experiences, which she can never remember when it comes to writing them down.

Best wishes on being selected. Will you join ROTC even if you don't get selected?
