Guys, help me out here. I'm a junior and i just got my SAT scores back. 610 math 630 writing but 540 critical reading. I am taking it again September 11th because i really need to improve that CR score. I was wondering when the first round of applications are due. I want to get it in but I also want to improve my scores. Is it better just to wait for the second round or should I send it in anyway then update them with my new scores when i get them? Thanks for any help.

Send it in now. Update when you get a new score. The first board doesn't meet until October. The conventional wisdom is to get your scholarship application in as soon as you can to be evaluated at the maximum number of boards. If you are not picked at one board, they will roll your app over to the next board for consideration. If you send in better SAT scores, they will update your overall score on the scholarship app as well.

I agree. Get all the paperwork in asap. Update with better score, awards, etc as needed. Sometimes its difficult to get transcripts etc from the school, so start as soon as your Junior year transcripts are final. Son got everything in during the summer....big relief to finish this before school applications.

Also, don't think that since the first board is in October, then you would be fine if your application gets in by October. As apps come in, they schedule them for the boards. For example, lets say they decide that the first 500 apps sent in nationwide would make the first board, and the next 500 for the second board and so on (also don't forget the rollovers from previous boards). Then if you happen to be application 502, you're already out of the first board and in for the second board. And I mean, your application package (including transcripts, officer interview, etc) has to REACH the board!

So at least get your whole package in NOW! Then you can update your scores before they really evaluate you and decide on your package for the scholarship.

Tina is incorrect. If your file is in before the deadline it will be boarded. they limit the number of offers made on each board, but theyu don't hold any files over for the next board. I concurr with all before. Get your file started now and try to get boarded early. Depending on what school you are looking at, your SATs look fine (unless Harvard and MIT are at the top of your list). Good luck.
