ARMY ROTC scholarship

Just a question- if #2 school offered a full tuition academic scholarship and this is DS school of choice, why not take the academic scholarship and drop the ROTC scholarship? DS can always enroll in AROTC w/o a scholarship and have complete flexibility with no obligation (and no risk of a medical issue or physical injury causing him to lose the scholarship over 4 years). Just interested in decision process.
Oops, I see I used DS, but it was DD, not that it's relevant. If she had ended up using the AROTC scholarship, she would have wanted to use it at #2 School for Room & Board, and the academic scholarship to cover the tuition. In the end, she went with her NROTC scholarship offer at a different college.

Some schools, like where my DS is going to attend, will layer the scholarships so his ROTC scholarship will pay for tuition but now his school's academic scholarship will transition into a room and board scholarship. Talk to your school's ROTC administrators as well as the school's academic scholarship administrators.

My DS earned a 3 year AROTC scholarship in the January board. He was awarded to #1 (SMC), #2 (private), and #4 (in-state public).

Good to know, and thanks to all for the input! I will just encourage him to apply to all of the schools on his list just in case.😊
