Army ROTC to NROTC (marine option)?

I'm currently a contracted cadet in my school's Army ROTC program...
However, I am most likely transferring next year to a university w/ NROTC.

Is it possible for me to earn some kind of 3 year Marine option NROTC scholarship? I'm hearing conflicting answers regarding this...

Basically, I want to go from Army ROTC to NROTC (marine option) and want to know if there is a valid way to this. Thank you.
 
If you're a freshman with less than 30 credit hours you could fill out the application for the 4 year high school scholarship. Other than that you could go in as a college programmer and hope to win a nationally competitive sideload (in-school) scholarship, but they are somewhat rare these days. Actually, upon reflection, you're too late to submit the high school scholarship application for this fall.

If the school you're transferring to has AROTC I would pursue transferring my scholarship there.
 
@saf361 Are you contracted or just enrolled? If you are contracted, then you will have to be disenrolled from Army ROTC. Being disenrolled tends to have negative consequences when trying to enter another officer producing program. If disenrolled, you will receive an RE3 code, and will need a waiver to rejoin the military.
 
I assume that you are a four year scholarship winner then. It is easy to disenroll freshman, however you most likely won't be able to transfer to NROTC based on what I have said earlier. You should check with someone from Navy ROTC to see if they give waivers for RE3 codes and would take a disenrolled cadet.

Why are you looking to transfer to Navy when you already have contracted with a 4YR scholarship?
 
Mohawk, he wants to be a Marine officer...he doesn't know how much better it is to serve in the Army in terms of breadth of career and educational opportunities as well as the higher quality of life or maybe he wants to fly jets.

My DS originally applied to USNA, and NROTC/MO with the intent of going Marine Officer, but did not receive an appointment or NROTC scholarsip. He ended up joining AROTC at a local regional university that did not offer NROTC. It was more affordable than the SMC which accepted him.

In his freshman year, as an MS-I, (before being offered his scholarship) he was approached by a Marine OSO to do PLC/OCS concurrently with AROTC. While he was tempted, I was surprised he turned it down. He had already seen the variety of opportunities that Army offered, and appreciated how welcoming his cadre and battalion was. He had bonded with his fellow cadets and felt it would be disloyal to do both PLC and AROTC.

Shortly after that, he was offered a 3 year campus based scholarship which they later extended another half year. He has thrived there ever since.

Oh, and the Army does operate 34 fixed wing Cessna and Gulfstream aircraft. They aren't quite the same as F-18's but they are jets!

Go to the LT that counsels the freshmen & he/she should be able to tell you if you're a good candidate for this. Have you contacted the NROTC Unit at the school that you're transferring to? This will be part of the process. You should have stellar grades, great aptitude scores & great PRT scores. There are Regulations regarding this, you can ask at your AROTC to see the regs & read about the requirements & the process for yourself.
