Army weighs 4 options to replace current camo

The only place you can hide, on your mothers couch

I still love that photo. It's my favorite, right next to the Navy guy in their digis on the blue deck.

Which one would that be for the navy? On the other hand, I've only seen this random one for the Air Force. (Gotta poke a little fun at all of the services right?)

Fortunately, the AF did not go with the Smurf camo!
...it tied itself to the back of the ACU bandwagon...but wanted to be a little different.

Bruno's Army Times link indicates that two of the firms in the hunt are from New York. Any chance they'll bring back the Zouave uniform?

Zouave uniform

The uniform of the 5th New York Volunteer Infantry (Duryée's Zouaves), 1861, consisted of a distinctive jacket, vest, sash, baggy trousers, and fez. The Zouave uniform adopted on both sides by many volunteer units during the first year of the Civil War was based on that of the elite Zouave battalion of the French Army, whose dashing appearance matched its fighting abilities. In their turn, the French Zouaves modeled their uniform and drill after the native dress and fearless tactics of their former Algerian opponents, encountered in the course of the colonial war of the 1830s.

So glad the Coast Guard doesn't have uniforms.... or guns.

I agree with those that see the ACU and ASU as poor decisions. They definitely were. All branches make poor Acquisition decisions, though, above and beyond uniforms, including Coast Guard. No branch should be pointing fingers about wasted resources.

CG: Deepwater
Army: Commanche
Navy: NMCI
Marines: NMCI :) (Yes, I know, they just went along for the ride, but still, its got their name in the title)
Airforce: KCX

I totally agree, only there's a difference between design and cost overruns and a needless project from the start. It's also important to point out the relative costs of that Deepwater program. (and you forgot about the LCS for the Navy). I'll let you know when the Coast Guard starts giving away RHIs like the Army does humvees.

What do you see to be wrong with the LCS? I've found them to be very useful.

Oh I've LOVED my time on an LCS, but it had a number of the same initial issues as the Coast Guard's Deepwater program.

Love the rooster tail an LCS can make. I felt like I was a 2 inch tall guy on the back of a bass boat.

I have trouble seeing the multicam wearing Soldiers in the airport. I haven't seen the other designs that will be tested, though.

My money bet is that Crye will win with multicam. There are enough uniforms in the system to offer a decent cost savings.
