First off, congratulations to everyone who has received scholarships! I am new to the forum, but have received so much information and insight over the last month, so thank you! My DS had applied for the NROTC and AROTC scholarship and was ecstatic to find out he received the AROTC 3 year. He still has no decision on the NROTC. We are new to ROTC since we have multiple family/ friends who have served in the marines/army/navy, but all have gone in as enlisted. He was accepted EA to Chapel Hill which is his #1 school and the scholarship was placed there as well! He had a chance to visit both units on different days and immediately felt the AROTC unit was the best fit for him. He feels so comfortable in his decision, that even if awarded a 4 yr. NROTC, he is accepting the 3 yr. AROTC. We are so fortunate for the scholarship opportunity since he was going to join AROTC regardless after spending time with them, but my question is if there are any opportunities to apply for a scholarship towards his first year? We definitely are grateful and don’t want to seem unappreciative, but also don’t want to miss any potential opportunities if available. ( Every little bit helps since his sister will be coming up for college soon as well). I have watched the threads here and do not see where Chapel Hill has been mentioned as a school helping towards room/board or first year tuition for the 3 year scholarships, but will ask when we go to the admitted students day. I guess my question is, do we go through the school unit itself at this point, or does he reapply for the 4 year AROTC? I hate to sound ignorant, so any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

First congratulations. It’s a great honor. Last year my son also received a 3 year AROTC scholarship. He was just given an upgrade to a 3.5 for his hard work, leadership and performance his first semester at college.

When he arrived he tried out for the ROTC Ranger Challenge team and made it.

What saying is, if he goes to school, works hard, makes his mark and leads he will have a good chance to upgrade that scholarship to a 3.5.

BTW - my son loves his ROTC unit, Ranger Challenge Teammates and leadership. Wonderful experience and opportunity. Best of luck to your son
