AROTC and National Guard

DS awarded a three year AROTC to two in state schools and one out. An idea has been proposed that he join the Guard. In my state, guardsman receive full tuition waiver to all in state schools. Then I guess the ROTC scholarship would cover room and board. Has anyone experienced a similar situation? Any insight, advise?

You cannot be in the National Guard and on scholarship at the same time unless it is a GRFD scholarship.

e: To clarify, GRFD is a Gauranteed Reserve Force Duty scholarship. This is different than the national scholarships. It means your son will have to go into the Guard/Reserve when he commissions. He will not be allowed to compete for active duty.
