AROTC application question

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate place to post this question, but am hoping that someone might have a suggestion.

My daughter completed her AROTC application prior to the December deadline for the January Boards, and later received a letter stating that she was medically qualified for both AROTC and USMA. Her online status, however, states that the medical qualification is incomplete? The "contact us" link on the page takes her to a dead end. Does anyone know how to follow up on this?

Her DODMERB status has no bearing on her scholarship application. The status on the Cadet Command website is often incorrect/not updated, because Cadet Command doesn't really worry about DODMERB status until after an offer is made/the student enrolls in ROTC on campus. If you really have some time to kill you can try to get it fixed now, but it will be an easy fix, usually done by the gaining ROTC Battalion, once your daughter is inbound or receives a scholarship offer.

Hope that helps

OK, I see ... thanks for your prompt response! So, no scholarship this go around ...dang. She'll keep up the good fight though ... onward to commission somehow.

jalpwc...my sons status appears just like your daughters and was concerning me also. Nice to know it is a normal situation. Good luck to you.

I'm a junior applying to USMA. I've started to contact a few ROTC schools near me- RIT, Brockport and Norwich. What do I need to do to aggressively pursue a ROTC opportunity?

I've already finished my VP nomination bid and expect the packet from one Congressman in two weeks. I should finish other two applications shortly. I just have to fine tune my first resume, four letters, and four essays. I finished SATs on Saturday and have already scheduled SAT and ACT for March and April. I'm am basically trying to cover all my bases, and welcome any insight.

Complete the AROTC application. It should open up online this spring (April?). Continue visiting schools with AROTC units, including those where you can get in state tuition. Complete your application in time for August boards, which means lining up teacher recommendations this spring.

This year the first board was not until October. My son had his application complete sometime in July with the exception of the interview. He did the interview at his first choice school in September and was reviewed by the first board in October. You very well may receive awards near the end of your Junior year. You want to make sure you get anything and everything on your application so I wouldn't submit it until you know everything to put on it. You can update it until it is board reviewed but the update process will leave you wondering if your information got added.

There is no board in August for AROTC. There is also no formal process for recommendations, you can send them in to Cadet Command but there is no guarantee they will read them. Recommendations are not an official part of the application process.

As Packer said you can update your file up to 2 weeks or so before the first board in October, the dates of next years boards will be posted sometime during the summer. Make sure you not only put what you have done, put what you will be doing in your senior year.

I am hopefully attending Boys State; have lined up the interview this month. Should I include this on an application? I worry about not being trusted if my plans don't work. I was planning on sending in my current resume to my representatives, but I would include a handwritten note explaining my upcoming opportunities for academics, leadership and civics.

TO Packer, Jcleppe and kinnem....Thanks for this insight

You have plenty of time to find out if you are going to be going to Boys State before you need to submit your application. You don't need to be in too big of a hurry for AROTC. If you know you are going to play football your senior year put that down or track or band or whatever. With regards to your representative, I think you are talking about congressional representative and that is not part of the AROTC process. That would be a part of the academy application process which is entirely different. Your MOC will have their procedure and deadlines on their website so you will need to check that out and see what they require if you are planning on also applying to any of the academies.

How come no Clarkson on your list? If you are at NY Boy's State we may meet. As Packer said, don't be in too big a hurry. First board will be in October. Need to be doing your interview some time in August/September.

What does the National ROTC scholarship application ask? Will it be similar to applying to an academy? Everyone says to apply early, but now I've heard that some candidates have applied too early as they leave gaps, ie. low scores, lack of community involvement, and leadership moments. Can someone PM me :)

By the way, I have qualified for Boys State and will finish my Eagle project this Tuesday with a roof for the two baseball dugouts. Had a fantastic visit to Brockport and will visit Norwich this month.
