AROTC battalion size- pros or cons?

When you are saying ERAU are you talking Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona? .
The ERAU in Florida is the main campus, about 3x the size of the Arizona campus, so usually when a person just writes ERAU, it means Florida.

Yes -we're visiting Daytona where all the ROTC's make up about 20percent of student body. Don't know exact cadre size.

Were very impressed with academics and Pitt itself but we were there for a Sat visit so didn't meet cadre or APMS. DS has been in email contact. Cadre size 70.

So university size and other benefits play a big part in DS 's decision . Am aware that ERAU DB covers room and board.
Privileged to be in this situation.

I am guessing you meant the Battalion size of 70 and not the Cadre size. Any Battalion with 70 Cadre would be HUGE to say the least.

70 is a nice size for a Battalion, large enough to complete a good FTX and small enough to afford some good opportunities.

Field Training Exercise
Situational Training Exercise

FTX is usually done over a weekend, starting Friday, ending Sunday.

STX are usually done as a Lab either during the week or one day over a weekend.

There's also JFTX, or Joint Field Training Exercise. This involves MS3s from multiple schools preparing for LDAC and would probably occur over a Thursday to Sunday time frame.

(did some posts just disappear?)

70 cadets at Pitt and 170 cadets at all the 13 schools that make up the battalion.

When you are saying ERAU are you talking Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona? If so, I am currently enrolled at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Our two schools together make a battalion. However, we operate pretty separate from each other other than FTX and JFTX. Paperwork wise we run off the same Professor of Military Science who works out of the department at NAU. But we have our own cadre and they have their own cadre.

As for if smaller is better, from what I have seen is its by far better. My class, MS200, we have about 30 cadets. I have a friend who goes to ASU and they have upwards of 70-80 in the same class evidently. Its nice being in a small group as its..

1. Less competition for scholarships/contracting.
2. More one on one experience with the cadre. All the cadre know my name and I can go to them with any problem or question.
3. Easier training environment since you get to do everything. And I mean everything. I am only a sophomore and I've filled the role of 1sgt and CO before. And I have also run STX lanes. All of which you don't normally see until your junior year. If I want to go to FTX, well great, ill go. If I want to do Color guard, wonderful I am in. The only thing that has restrictions on entering is Ranger Challenge because well...its Ranger Challenge.

Posted months ago, the discussion is worth revisiting as people make choices. (not for the specific schools mentioned, rather the issue of finding the best fit). I hope someone will speak up for the merits of large units

Post visit f/u- Cadre size of about 180 cadets was overwhelming for DS .
