AROTC better than no ROTC?

So the dust is still settling after DS TWE to USNA. The school he will likely be attending has offered a decent merit scholarship, but has no NROTC program, only AROTC. If his goal is still to apply to USNA would the AROTC make a difference?
I guess my question really is ... Is it better to do any ROTC program, do no ROTC program, or go to a foundation type school if his goal is still to receive an appointment to USNA next year? (of course assuming he works hard and does well in the appropriate courses).
thanks for any advice!

Did he complete the AROTC app and go thru the hoops? I'm under the impression it's not one size fits all ROTC, I know my son interviewed NROTC specifically. Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question.

My DD was a reapplicant (now c/o 2019). She did not do ROTC at her college. I know they did not offer NROTC, but I think they offered another ROTC. A successful reapplication can be made without ROTC.

Grades are the the #1 item as a reapplicant. Showing solid grades in a college program mimicking a Plebe like schedule is what helps boost a reapplicant the most. ROTC isn't a requirement. I think the key is if he likes the idea that he could be commissioned in the Army. He needs to plan as if he is going to spend 4 years at this school. He could end up loving the school, he could get hurt, he could reapply and not get in. So if being in the Army interests him, then sign up for ROTC. If it's Navy all the way then pass on AROTC and plan to work for an OCS spot or research NUPOC options.

You can attend AROTC classes without being a scholarship recipient, at least at the schools DS has applied to. It becomes an elective and puts you in contention for campus based scholarships. Whether it will help probably depends on your leadership score

He did not apply to any ROTC program at all.

He was just accepted to a great school with NROTC, so there is yet another option! I think he is still digesting it all.
Thanks everyone for your comments and support. This is such a unique road we are traveling on

If you do not mind what state are you from?

I should be clear... the school has NROTC, he has not applied or interviewed. Just an option hopefully down the road
