AROTC Class of 2014 Branching

I know accessions just got released and all, but does anyone know when orders start to get released? I know it varies by branch, but a lot of winter commissionees got their BOLC dates already. Anyone know?

You won't see any until Feb/March probably, that's when the bulk of ours came in.

Were any of them active duty? The only ones I know of with BOLC days are all in the Reserve/Guard.

Just FYI, BOLC dates/orders will usually be Feb-March, although it could be much later depending on where you placed on the OML.

On a related note, don't try to trade BOLC dates once you get yours. I tried that last year and had a very nasty conversation with my PMS for my efforts after Cadet Command metaphorically handed me my ass for even asking.

BOLC dates are based on two things - 1) priority cases, like ADO green to gold guys who get frontloaded and 2) OML standing. Unless you are an active duty green to gold guy, you will follow the national OML and slots will be filled accordingly. If you didn't place high on the OML, you can expect to see a BOLC date later in the fall or perhaps even in 2015. It was not unusual for the class of 2013 to get dates that ranged into early 2014.

Also, take into account that the Army is downsizing and slots are being cut across most branches. Here @ AV BOLC, they have cut class sizes in half due to reduced funding. Not sure about the rest of BOLCs, but don't be surprised if you are in for a bit a wait.

If you are a cadet who accessed AD, I would urge every one of you to volunteer for LDAC/LTC or GBR. I did GBR and it was an awesome experience, and gave me much needed money over the summer. It's a pain in the butt to do all the of the paperwork, but it's really worth it if you get it. It's tough to try to get a job that you will end up quitting shortly to go to BOLC.

I forgot - two more things:

1) If you have AKO access, check it regularly over the winter going into Jan-Feb. If you do this, you'll know far ahead of time when your BOLC class is because they'll put you in for an ATTRS registration. I can't remember exactly when it was, but I got a notification for my class registration somewhere in mid January.

2) If you have CAC access for whatever reason, you can go to the HRC portal. If you click the section on the right that says "Self Service", the subsequent page will have a link called "RFO" or "Request for Orders". That link will pull up your tentative orders through HRC. This is also available several months before you get a hard copy of your orders.

So If you we're a DMG you more than likely will have an early BOLC date or Be Cadre @ LDAC/LTC if you volunteered?

What is GBR? I've figured out a lot of the acronyms around here, but that one is new to me...

Thanks!

Gold Bar Recruiter, encourage students to enroll in ROTC after you commission and wait for your BOLC start date. Your Active pay and service starts when you start GBR

GBR is an awesome gig, but I don't recommend working at LDAC as a new LT IMO unless you are REALLY hurting for cash. You can PM me if you want to know why. I can''t comment on LTC but I am guessing it is similar to LDAC.

What about those of us who graduate in December?

I can't speak for December grads because I wasn't one, but my guess would be that you will follow the same OML-based scheduling.

Those of you who are highest on the OML will get the date closest to graduation, and slots will be filled accordingly. That being said, I have no idea what class fills are for various branches. Realistically, you'll probably go sometime in late spring if you are high on the OML, and anywhere from summer to fall if you are lower.

Like I said, keep tabs on your AKO email and your RFO so that you know when you've been signed up for BOLC. That will happen several months before you ever get orders. You'll get an email from ATTRS saying you've been registered for a BOLC class and it'll give you dates.

I was a DMG, and yes I got a date in summer 2013 as opposed to guys lower on the OML who got 2014.

As for the GBR thing, your standing as a cadet has an effect on whether or not you're picked up for the job. It is a competitive process, and they have a limited number of slots per brigade and school.

Gold bar recruiter is an awesome job. I had a lot of fun and got to interact with a lot of people and prior service soldiers I was trying to get into green to gold. It is a great opportunity to contribute to your ROTC program and attract quality candidates to your program. I really enjoyed being able to give back to my program. Oh yeah, and it's nice to get paid

Finally - Two Weeks Later

My cadet was notified of Branch results today. Fully two weeks after most results were distributed. Ed Delay.

No acceptances yet. Interviews upcoming.

As you probably know the Ed Delay does not require an acceptance until 2014 but does require 'passing' MCAT scores, validation of transcripts, and reference letters.

Yup my buddy had stellar scores (31 MCAT 3.9 GPA) and heavy previous medical experience, he didn't get in within a year and was forced back into the Army.

Good luck with the interviews hope he gets in

Ed Delay is a risk. You are correct. Did your friend attempt to extend the delay to improve his test scores or application?

The Ed Delay is the easy part. Acceptance is more difficult.
