AROTC Class of 2014 Branching

Report from my school, 3 guys got forced branched of of probably 15 who wanted active.

Thats strange, I had an 82 before the point adjustments, yet I did not get AD. I wonder if my branch preferences had any dealings with this or not.

Oh and I never found out my score after the drop. I feel as though there should have been another mandatory counseling session to inform us of this....

No clue. God knows what happened with our scores since September. You aren't the first odd case I've heard.

There were a couple GRFD, but the most I've talked to were forced RD. I couldn't tell you much about their OMS other than the ones
whose scores I knew were all lower than mine at the time we were first told in September.

Sounds like a tough school/battalion.

Only 1/3rd of my fairly large battalion got active duty.

which makes me wonder about AD/Res. statistics for large battalions compared to small ones. Does size not matter after all?

I really don't think it matters my school usually has 25-30 per class and 95% get what they want even though someone has to be last on batt OML If you do average on ROTC class ranking, average at LDAC and a 3.1+ GPA you will most likely get AD. I have seen some real duds who I thought couldn't get AD get it last year as well as this year.

People who get forced RD were deficient in one or more of these areas.

Eh, I don't know if a 3.1 and average across the board cuts it this year.

The guys I know who got active this year were pretty average (GPA, LDAC etc) sitting in the low 80s apparently and got AD but not one their top 3 branches. No science/math major ADSO.

I don't know, all I can tell you is that the atmosphere in my battalion isn't the best right now.

I was told 91 both before the scores were supposedly dropped and yesterday during counseling. I do not know if my LTC did not hear about scores dropping or just decided not to tell me but I was told I had a 91 as my score and I still did not receive my top 3 choices.

Beginning to sound like a cadets position on the OML unless top 10% did not have a big effect on branch. CC did have a couple articles this year saying that they were going go take Leadership, Major, Urban area location, Gender, Diversity, and other factors into account when assigning branches this year. A high GPA that results in a higher OMS may not be enough as in past years.

Of course there might just be a big Dart Board involved.

Unless they release comprehensive statistics about this year's class, which I am not holding my breath for, I doubt I will know what it was (specifically) that kept me from getting my first three choices.

Edit: The easy answer is that I simply did not do enough to earn what I wanted. No excuses.

Either way, to any underclassmen reading this thread, work your butt off to ensure you get what you want and do your best to leave no doubt about what you will receive when your OML is released.

Ordnance.

1st three choices were IN, EN, AR.
OD was only in the top 4 because of needing to have a non combat arms branch in the top 4.

I am a long time lurker de-lurking to very happily report that my MS-IV DD learned yesterday that she received her first choice - Active Duty, Military Intelligence branch. No branch detail, and she used ADSO for branch. She is also a DMG. Proud and excited mom here.

Of the fourteen MS-IVs in her batallion, eight got AD, and six got Reserves/Guard. I'm not sure how many of those were forced Reserves but at least a few - though sounds like the cadets in that position had received pretty good counseling to prepare them for the possibility. Of four nurses, three got AD. Four DMGs, all AD, but one received one of his last choice branches - DD didn't think he had been very strategic in his selections.

I will post some details of DD's ROTC journey at a later date as it didn't follow the most typical route. While in lurkdom, I have learned an incredible amount just following along, and I sure appreciate all the regular posters who are so willing to share their knowledge and insights.

Should have put down FA man instead of some of those more competitive combat branches if you definitely wanted combat arms and didn't think your OML was that high. But hindsight is 20/20 and even low performers can get top branches just luck of the draw sometimes. With CC changes who knows what they did to determine everything.
