AROTC Credentials

Hello I'm just wondering if I can get some honest feedback for my chances at a 4 year scholarship to these school (in order): University of Washington, Oregon State, University of Portland, University of Oregon, University of Minnesota, Arizona State. I'm a senior in high school

Credentials:

3.5 GPA UW
AP European History, AP US History, AP English Language, AP Physics C,
Currently in AP US GOV, AP Economics, AP Calculus AB, AP Biology, AP Literature
4 years soccer, 1 year varsity
2 years track
2 years student government
NHS Member
4 years key club (over 200 hours volunteered through it) 1 year historian elect
4 years Marching and concert band (in top group) 3 years jazz band (trumpet) Brassline 2 years (only at school for two years) historian 1 year elect
Boy Scout- Life rank and many leadership positions
1910 SAT
26ACT
my PFT wasn't the best, I got a 6:02 mile and only 38 push ups and 35 sit ups (I was kind of sick)
My essay was also extremely solid and read by a friend who will be attending Harvard next fall


Will get varsity tennis but wont be able to put it on till spring
 
GPA is OK, NHS is good.
Courses are good
SAT is good but need to see breakout. What was math and CR scores?
Athletics are good but did you earn any Varsity letters? Were you a team captain at any time? 90% of awardees played varsity sports and earned letters, and 60% were team captains
Student govt and clubs are good but were you an officer? Were you elected to any leadership positions?
Band/Orchestra is good, did you hold any leadership positions? Section leader? First chair? etc.
Boy Scout is good -- what were those leadership positions? Eagle Scout?
 
Did you make this board? If so then that drastically increases your chances. You want to be reviewed as many times as possible. If you can, then try to retake your PT test.
 
My son had the following for the first board and did not receive a scholarship:
  • 4.0 GPA unweighted
  • 31 on ACT with a 36 on math
  • 3 AP courses as a junior and 5 now
  • 4 years varsity soccer with 2 years as captain
  • 4 years varsity track with 2 years as captain (recruited by many D1 schools)
  • local club soccer that competed at a national level
  • 4:40 mile, 45 push ups and 60 sit ups
  • works 10-15 hours a week
  • established a cancer fund raiser with the track team that raised over $10k for pediatric cancer
  • NHS
  • 3 years student government
His schools were Lehigh (accepted ED1), Bucknell and Penn State.

Fingers crossed for round 2!
 
The problem with asking a chance when it comes to AROTC is that the scholarship is tied to the cadet and the schools. NDROTC may have stronger stats, but they are not applying to any of the same schools.
~ No offense NDROTC.

Sorry malin, but you are just going to have to wait it out.

FWIW, I think your true weakness is your ACT/SAT. I have seen ACT scores as low as 24 get a scholarship, but again we go back to how competitive you are for your school list.

tibreaker -- I don't think it works that way for AROTC or AFROTC. (No experience with NROTC or Marine Option).

I believe you can update your SAT/ACT scores, but the rest of the package is reviewed once (in order to cut down on review board workload) and your "whole person score" for AF ROTC, or score for the "order of merit list" (OML) for AROTC determined.

Last year for AF ROTC if you put a package in for the first AFROTC board, they screened the packages and immediately told folks if they weren't competitive, or they were put on a wait list to meet the final review board, or they were awarded a scholarship outright. (Keep in mind AF ROTC scholarships over the past 2 years have been very limited -- something like 300 total scholarships nation wide each of those 2 years. Not sure of process this year on number of available scholarships.)

For AROTC if you put your package in for the first board, your OML was then compared against all those that competed for each of the three boards. I assume same process is in place this year.

Pima will correct me on AF ROTC and Clarkson will correct me for AROTC.
