Has anyone run into this scenario with AROTC scholarship? DS is a 4 year scholarship winner. DS is taking 19 credits this semester. The university is charging him 1600 dollars for the 19th credit, over the 18 credit. Is 18 credits the max that AROTC pays for? He met with the Dean today to request a waiver of the fee, but they can't or won't do it. We plan to pay it out of pocket, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this experience? Many thanks!

How many are ROTC credits? Is it one or two ROTC classes? Like one credit for lab and three for the mil science class? Your university sucks to do this! They are getting the government money for your tuition. They are providing minimal support for the classroom space and one admin person and not even providing the instructors.

Have your PMS call the dean. Most schools simply waive the extra credit costs. Another option I have seen done is that if PT is a 3rd class for credit their PMS allows them to drop the PT class for credit - but they attend anyway. Others have you drop the LLab credits but you attend the class anyway to meet the ROTC requirements.

In the recent past my DD's school waived extra credit costs - none of which were ROTC credits. She had multiple academic semesters with 21 or 22 credits (med school prereq's) without any ROTC credited classes. She had to attend the ROTC classes but did not receive school credit for the classes.

Thanks! Will have DS talk to PMS. Super frustrating really, simply because he could take community college class over the summer for much less than the 1600 and transfer that towards degree. Think might have him do that anyhow just in case he ends up needing more than 18 credits again--currently in sophomore year and no CULP this summer-so it could work. Apparently, he should be all set, but one can never be sure. His ROTC is one class for credits. No credit for PT.
We honestly weren't aware 19 credits would be an issue-were surprised with yet another bill. The school's attitude is that the bill is an easier take than some of his peers, but those peers also don't commit their lives to service. If he gets anywhere with any of this, I'll post to try to guide others.
It is what it is....
