If an applicant is boarded at the first board for AROTC which, as I understand it, meets this week, how long will it take for the first board scholarships to be awarded and how is the news communicated?

It states on the website that the results are announced 2-4 weeks after the board convenes. Also, I saw on the other forums that people received emails about their scholarship if they did receive one, but I am not 100 percent sure.

I read on another thread that your portal will be updated and you receive an email saying you have a new document. This is totally from another source as I haven't been through it. My son's application is board ready now so it is supposed to be reviewed this week.

We are in exactly the same situation!

Are you obessively checking his selection status, too?? It's ridiculous that I keep checking but I can't seem to help myself!!

This is directly from Clarkson.
The board usually takes about a week to do their work. They just score files. That score is used to create an order of merit list and that order of merit list is used by Cadet Command to make offers. That process usually takes a couple weeks. If you are boarded by the first board expect to see first round offers coming out by mid November.

Sorry to disappoint, but at least you can stop checking for at least 3 more weeks. Remember that the 1st board is not where the bulk of scholarships are awarded. Good luck.

Oh, I know, I just keep looking to see if he has been Boarded. That will ease my mind a lot to see that change!!

Its a long process especially for the first board. I was checking every day since i saw the "Boarded" notification. Good luck. Notifications are much quicker for the 2nd and 3rd boards.

I can stop obsessing now. BOARDED!

Sorry, I had to post that emoji! The fact is starting in 2 weeks you will start obsessing again for the results. If not awarded the hamster wheel starts all over again. If boarded and awarded the obsessing will be the DoDMERB.

Hate to tell you, but you will go through this many more times over their ROTC life and more when they commission. The only thing I can tell you is that as hard as it is to believe this is the easiest step from an emotional/nerves aspect. With each step closer to commissioning the higher the anxiety becomes due to the fact you/they have placed so much more time and effort in hopes of obtaining your/their dream.

The cliché this is a marathon and not a sprint does not only relate to scholarships, but getting to commission too.

Not trying to frighten you, just trying to say deep breaths, as a Mom that has given birth to 3 kids, right now you are at the Braxton Hicks point. :biglaugh:

Well, we won't have to obsess about DoDMERB, thankfully. He's already Qualified :) But yeah, in two weeks, I'll be right here again. And I'm quite certain that when it comes time to commission, I will be a hot mess but hopefully I'll be so obsessed with his brother's college applications that this one will get a break :D

Last year when the first round of selections came out the first notification was through the portal and emails came later. The portal notification was in the form of a status change to "Winner" highlighted in yellow and a red box around the definition of Winner. I don't think there were any other details given at that time like the number of years awarded but the first rounders are generally 4-year.

Thanks for the experiential information!

LOL, I wish I could but my son is very protective of his password so I have to depend on him to let me know...but I cannot stop thinking about it.
