My DD’s high school is planning to “recognize” her award of the AROTC Four Year Scholarship during a school assembly for “Honors Day.” We are in Georgia and she has accepted for The Citadel when she was posted as a “winner” after the first Board last fall.

Although I understand that AROTC has a process that allows one to try and schedule one of the busy ROTC faculty/ROO from the local area this can be difficult to arrange given the time commitments of these busy folks. Additionally, my DD has a faculty member at her high school that has traditionally handled these types of recognition/award ceremonies. Her high school is NOT a particularly military friendly organization and they have no JROTC program. But this one faculty member is a military officer and she has offered to make the presentation.

She has requested that I try and get some basic statistical information on the scholarship. I am hoping that some of our AROTC ROO mentors can provide some details for this year (if this year isn’t available we can work with last year data);

Total number of AROTC applicants
Total number of AROTC applicants Boarded
Total Number of AROTC applicants selected as Four Year winner .... total for all Boards and total for first Board
Any data on average SAT/ACT, GPA class rank, etc. for Four year winners
Any other pertinent information that might be useful (Scholar Athlete Leader info etc)

Finally, We can determine the total scholarship value pretty easily using the costs from the school, but there seems to be some variation in the monthly stipend. Some site say $420 each month for all four academic years (10 months). Some sites give a graduated amount that increases each year. Which amount is correct?

Thanks everyone!

$420 per month for each school year. The old graduated system has been changed.

DS is an MS1 and is currently getting a $300 per month stipend. Doesn’t appear that the new flat stipend went in to effect yet. Goarmy.com also still shows the graduated rates.

Is there any word for those who are current sophomores and juniors who will only receive less in the future while having received less in their first years?

When does the process begin to request an ROO to present the awards. I am a 3 year winner from the second board and am curious when to begin the process.

I expect you need to invite them. Ask the ROO at the college you plan to attend. That being said, I would think it might very well be a local officer recruiter type who actually does it. In any case, it wouldn't hurt to begin that route and get pointed in the right direction.

The ROO from my DS's school he will attend said last week that they are in the process of organizing presentations with local battalions right now. He said we should hear from someone at the battalion at our closest school by next week.

As soon as we knew the awards night at the high school, we got in touch with the coordinator at the school. My son then passed on the info to the ROO so he could coordinate it also.
