AROTC - If offered, should I take it before hearing from NROTC or AFROTC

Hi All,

Not to put the cart before the horse, but I've enjoyed great interviews in AROTC, AFROTC, and NROTC pursuits. It looks like the AROTC decision may be coming soonest. Nothing is guaranteed, and I'm not assuming anything, but I'm thinking ahead, and wanted to ask for guidance.

If I am offered an AROTC scholarship, I will need to let them know in 30 days of my decision. This will be before NROTC and AFROTC decisions are announced, I believe. I would like if possible to know all choices then make a decision. Has anyone else faced this? How did you you handle this?

Thanks in advance and best of luck to all candidates. I hope we each ultimately get the opportunity to serve.

Very respectfully,
Hermie

Accept the scholarship. If a more preferaable offer comes along accept it and let AROTC know you will not be using their scholarship.

Thank you for this guidance, Sir. It's helpful. Very Respectfully, Hermie

@Herman_Snerd Hermie, I commend you for your courtesy. Do make allowances for the fact that many who post here may be members of the Ma’am family. You may or may not be able to tell in many cases, but just be appreciative and you’ll be fine. This is just a general comment sparked by seeing the “sir,” and may or may not be relevant to @kinnem.

Hi Capt MJ, Thanks for your note. I responded to a specific poster repeatedly self-identified as the "Proud Dad of USMC 1stLt". Because of this, I felt comfortable calling him Sir. You reacted to seeing me using "Sir" to infer I might not have been able to tell or might not always be able to tell the gender of the poster - I understand your position, but I feel in this case I did know enough to be gender specific in my response. I hope you'll agree it's not unreasonable for me to call a dad, Sir. But if you don't and somehow this offended you, then please accept my apology. It certainly was not my intention to upset anyone. Also I know you are purely trying to help me, and for that, sincerely, I thank you. I'm finding a lot of value in the advice of those of you who take the time to help folks like me and my family figure all of this out. Thank you for this, Capt MJ, the proud Dad poster, and everyone. I really appreciate everyone's guidance. Very respectfully, Hermie

Thank you Kinnem. Good point - just to assure you indeed this is anonymous and does not trace to a specific applicant name. Thanks again and I ask that you please thank your son for his service to our country for me. I appreciate the sacrifices he is making. I hope to join your son in the armed forces, if I am afforded the opportunity to serve.

You never can tell in this day and age. In this particular case the use of "sir" was correct. I'm confident Capt MJ was not offended. She's a tough cookie and it wasn't quite clear who you were responding to. If you want to aim a response to someone in particular use @kinnem (or whatever the screen name is) and they'll not only know it was aimed at them, they'll be notified that there is a post for them to see.
