Maybe someone here knows the answer to this. If you receive the AROTC 4-yr scholarship with Nursing as your assigned major but the school to which you go doesn't admit you to their nursing program until after you have taken the pre-requisites (biochem, biology, etc.) does that still count as being a nursing major? Most of the schools seem like they have you listed as undecided or pre-Nursing or something the first year and then when you've completed the pre-reqs you apply for the Nursing program. Is that what everyone is finding?

Nursing programs that you need to take pre-requisites during your freshman (and sometimes sophomore) year before entering are referred to as "delayed entry" programs. Nursing programs that you are admitted as a freshman are referred to as "direct entry". The problem with the delayed entry programs are that you often have to apply to the nursing program after you've completed your first or second year and there is often very tough competition for those limited School of Nursing slots. It is not uncommon for some programs to take less than half of the applicants. I've included a link to a list of direct entry nursing programs:

I don't know for sure about the Army, but the Air Force and Navy will not award your scholarship to you until you have been accepted into the actual nursing program. The Air Force required my daughter to submit her acceptance letter as part of the scholarship process. It may be different with the Army.

Good luck!:thumb:

Oh no, definitely not what we wanted to hear!!...
Please keep in mind that the Army does not require certain majors (Types or Tiers) for their scholarships and therefor they may be perfectly alright with a delayed entry type of nursing program. As usual your best source for information would be the AROTC unit at the college(s) that your son or daughter is planning to attend. Obviously they would know better than I would what is acceptable.

Good luck to both of you!:thumb:

Army doesn't have specific majors, but my understanding was that pursuing the "Nursing Option" would put you on a different "track" than standard AROTC applications.

Anyone have any more insights they can share?

Thx!
