AROTC--pls help--before the interview, does every unit send out a health questionnaire?

My son is scheduling his ROTC interview with the military professor at a large unit in the midwest.
Before they will interview him, the program has asked him to fill out a general questionnaire which includes health questions about asthma, depression, meds, vision issues, etc.
We know he will need a waiver for ADHD medication (he has has been off the drug for 7 months and counting). Do you think they will "fail" him before interviewing him once they see this diagnosis and medication history on his questionnaire?

Does every unit ask these health questions prior to interviewing each ROTC candidate?

If this is not customary, we may elect to go elsewhere for the interview. I don't want him to "fail out" out of ROTC before even making it to the physical.

Any thoughts? Thank you so much. We are panicking.

I have never heard of this. My sons were never asked any medical questions during their interviews - that I am aware of anyway.

My DS interviewed at a large SMC that operates one of the largest AROTC units in the nation. He was not asked for any health information prior to his interview. in fact, we never dealt with any health stuff until AFTER he received his scholarship offer and we completed the DODMERB process.

Do what you want, but if I were in your shoes, I'd probably find a good reason to conduct my interview somewhere else, and then deal with any DQs and waiver requests if/when the need arises. Best of luck to you!

Are you/is he certain this isn’t his DODMERB health questionnaire?

If so, not unusual at all.

For AROTC, you are NOT asked or required to submit any health information unless/until a scholarship is offered. Note, this is different than the process if you are applying to a SA.
I had in my head, that this was maybe a case of ‘coincidence’…in that they also applied to a SA.

Good point, this could not be the case if only applying to ROTC.

Seems to me this is an effort by a large ROTC program to "pre-screen" candidates. As an applicant, I would be leery. Are they going to give me a lower score on my interview if they foresee difficulty in actually enrolling me? Keep in mind that the ROOs are evaluated in large part based on how many scholarship cadets they bring in each year. And while that is all well and good, TBH your personal medical information is no business of theirs. You will provide that directly to the DOD, confidentially, if/when the need arises. Sure, there may be times you seek assistance on a medical matter from your local battalion cadre, but by the large all they need to know is whether you are "qualified," "disqualified" or "pending waiver review."

Neither of my boys had to fill out a health questionnaire before their interviews (2nd one was just last year). Could this be something new that AROTC is doing this year?
