I have recently been moved to PMS interviewee status and was wondering where I should schedule my interview. My top schools are Stanford, Duke, and Vanderbilt. I do not live near any of these schools and was wondering if I should schedule my interview with someone whose school I’m not applying to but nearby or if there would be a way for me to obtain an online interview with Stanford? Would talking with a PMS at Stanford help influence my admission chances at Stanford?? Any and all help is appreciated!

Many people just suggest interviewing with a local school because you don't have to pay much for travel fees, saves time too. However, I've also heard of students doing a skype interview with their school of choice but you would have to communicate that with the PMS to see if they are willing. From what I know at least, applying for ROTC has no influence on the admissions board, but i could be wrong!

I had a buddy that wanted to go to and out-of-state school with the ROTC scholarship and he ended up interviewing with a local school in our state. He still got a the scholarship so it shouldn't matter too much.

There are certain, usually private, schools that, if they know they will get guaranteed Army money for 3-4 years, will give you a boost because of that.
That is even what a ROO told me at one university. But, you do need to be competitive for admission to the school too (obviously).

Interview at your local ROTC. The system is designed for this. But start talking with the ROOs at the schools you want to go to for a leg up in the admissions process.

I toured Mississippi State (actually got accepted yesterday :) )

Anyway, when I toured, the ROTC commander told me that you can interview with another school. As stated above, you're able to do this so you don't spend lots and lots of money travelling and such.

He recommended, however, that you interview with your top choice of school. So, I'd suggest a phone or skype interview with one of those schools.

It's more of a personal decision.

Good luck!

The official word is to interview locally, and I for one advocate that. But I'll also recommend calling your number one choice school, directly explaining that they are your number one choice (as listed on your app of course), and ask them if you should interview locally or if they would prefer if you interview directly with them for your PMS interview. If with them directly, then up to you if you want to ask if they would be open to a Skype call or if you have the budget, to arrange it during an on-campus visit. I think nearly all programs will tell you to interview locally but it's one more round of self-advocating, and in my DS's case last year, this call was the beginning of a dialogue directly with the leadership at his #1 choice that began months of discussions and the foundation of a strong relationship between him and this unit. Good luck.

I always emphasize that you should interview at the ROTC program where you have visited in the past and where the cadre knows you. You have total control over where you interview. Why not interview with people who know you well and you are comfortable at?
