I'm currently a hs senior and applicant for the national AROTC scholarship. I did not receive any offers the first 2 boards and my status is currently sitting at boarded. The other day i randomly got a letter in the mail from one of my top schools offering me a 3 year AD. I filled out the decision form and accepted the scholarship. The PMS replied saying congratulations, cant wait to have you, you'll be contacted soon with following steps, etc. Is this common? anyone else have any experiences like this? Thanks cant wait to hear back.

In the past, each battalion was issued a budget for "campus based" Army ROTC scholarships. If the ROO and PMS is concerned about meeting their mission for the coming year, they can plan a pre-emptive strike and can "reach out" to strong candidates like in your case. The scholarship is normally restricted to that school only, but it is a good deal.

It is more common for the battalion to hold these scholarships back and hand them out to "walk-on" cadets who show initiative during freshman year. This is what happened to my DS years ago, who is now an Armor 2LT.

Congratulations!

Congrats!! I wonder if NROTC units ever do that?
Not that I'm aware of. They do award 3 years to outstanding college programmers who are already enrolled without a scholarship.

NROTC has something, forget what it is called, where the recruiting district can offer a scholarship "on the spot"

No. The PNS has no scholarship awarding authority....anymore. Went away several years back.

@AJC - Immediate Scholarship Reservation. Awarded by the NRD Commanders within the scholarship board season.

Actually - each school gets some scholarships to recruit national non-selects. Maybe a 3AD for an out of stater and/or 1-2 in state.
This is separate from a campus based scholarship awarded to already enrolled freshman or sophomores.
