Is it normal for AROTC (or other branches) to require cadets to miss class(es) to attend ROTC events? What is the expectation?

There seems to be a bit of "unadvertised" events that were not previously disclosed that, had they been known, could have helped with scheduling classed, etc.

Just trying to understand to avoid conflict.

Thanks.

I haven't had to miss any class(es) to attend ROTC events. The only thing that comes close to being a conflict is lab, but it's mainly up to the cadet/person to schedule their classes properly to avoid conflicting with the predetermined lab time.

There were FTX events that required departures on a Friday afternoon but that was perhaps one or two times a semester.

It doesn't usually pose any problems.

Thanks. There is a weekly event that conflicts with a class, and FTX starting before last class on Friday.

Not a big deal, just want to avoid missing class. Hopefully this is just a first semester issue that can be planned for going forward.

Thanks again for the insight.

Missing an academic class weekly is potentially a problem especially if class attendance is mandatory.

What is the weekly ROTC event? Is it an optional activity?

A waiver was given for the ROTC event, but it would be better if not scheduled or cadet was informed before academic schedule set. It is a one hour zoom session in addition to weekly ROTC class.

Then with the early schedule for FTX, I am wondering if this is the norm? Academics should come first and ROTC should respect that.

mandatory ROTC vs Academic class conflicts should be strictly one-off occasional events - not a regular consistent basis.

I would consult with your ROO or chain of command about this.

It is different if it is a voluntary activity such as Ranger or Drill Team. Then it is up to you to work your academics around it.
