AROTC Scholarship App Questions

soccmomer- It took my coach around 4 days to get that email from CC I believe. He just submitted it today, so I am good to go as soon as CC verifies my guidance counselor form that was also submitted today! I can't wait to get this process over with and move to the waiting and seeing part!

And what does CC mean that they're not set up for interviews yet? They better to start being set up, or we're gonna have 5000 applicants trying to interview in one month lol! :thumb:

@Strength & Honor

Did you do your PFT before your coach was emailed, and then all they have to do is send in the reporting sheet? Or did you have to wait until the coach was emailed before you could do the test?

I have to say, I'm starting to feel a bit panicked with the timeline that's remaining.

I'm going to be honest here, we 'think' that's what the email said but it was hard for us to interpret. The email did confirm that all else is completed. We sent an email to the college for clarification, but we are not 100% positive that was what we are supposed to do.

Like everyone else once fall rolls around sports and school and ECs get tricky but in addition DS is going to Italy for ~ two wks in September and will miss school etc (DS grandfather passed away and grandmother is nervous to travel out of the country alone so DS has to go along) so, like everyone else it would be a blessing to get this part checked off.

I simply brought the PFT sheet into my coach (printed it off from Army website). He filled it out and I scanned it and uploaded it to my portal. Then when he got the email he filled it out online and saved it. PFT problems done!

Don't freak out too much, you basically have until the last week of September!

How did you handle your transcripts (I.e. did you upload an unofficial copy with the application, or did your guidance counselor send them via email, snail mail, etc.)?

Did your guidance counselor receive an email with the "guidance counselor form" attached, along with instructions for what they are supposed to do?

I used a site called Parchment that my school prefers, and they sent it to CC electronically. You could definitely just contact your school though and have them send it via snail mail, it may just take longer to get there. I think they'd accept them if they were emailed from the school as well.

Unless CC does email the form to guidance - just print off a copy of CCF 168-R and have your DS hand deliver it to him/her. When done, scan and upload the form to the portal

A little off topic..

If you did not receive a scholarship and wish to apply for a 3-year scholarship, do you need your final high school transcript? What other things would you need?

I'm asking because I will be leaving to the other side of he country soon and I wouldn't want to forget anything. Google has just shown that my Professer of Military Science will tell me what I'd need.

2LtMom- There is a section on the application where they ask for a guidance counselor email. They send them the form to fill out, just like the coach that you listed.

Frankie- If you're talking about campus-based three year scholarships after you get there, usually you don't need your high school transcripts. They award the 3 and 2 year scholarships based on your performance in the unit while you are there.

This is the statement on the AROTC Website regarding interviews:
"Personal interview(s). If you are selected as a scholarship finalist, you must contact one of the schools listed in your notification letter (or any school of your choice) where you wish to have the interview conducted. Any travel to and from the interview will be at your own expense. " So it does sound as though there is some kind of vetting process for "finalists" to proceed in the application process. This whole things is so different than I thought.

Also, are there really no teacher recommendation letters as part of the AROTC application? We aren't seeing them at all anywhere in the application process.

Ds just made his appointment for the interview with the PMS. He was told to "dress to impress" and to bring any recommendations that he wants the PMS to see. He is going to see if he can get letters from his math teacher (who is having an AP Calculus get together the day before the interview), his soccer coach (they are in pre-season now), and possibly his Boy Scout leader. We weren't expecting to need those nest week, so it is a bit of a scramble.
And as far as interviews at other schools - not sure the official protocol, but we had already visited this school (2nd choice) and met with the ROO, and will be vsiting 4th choice school in the fall. 1st choice school we visited, but did not meet with the ROTC folks. It is 7 hours away so we may go over Columbus or Veteran's Day weekend.

From reading over the posts of this year's application pool, it does not seem that CC made that change; for years prior CC never required that either.

To my knowledge, NROTC is the only branch that requires recommendation letters.

Ds just made his appointment for the interview with the PMS.
Best wishes to your DS! He will love it!

PMS finally uploaded my interview form! OFFICIALLY done with the whole application thing (ROTC-wise, anyway)!

? RE: Setting up AROTC Interview

DS is cleared to interview. He emailed the ROO at his first choice school about 2 weeks ago to let him know he'd like to have his interview at that school. He's yet to hear anything back. I know that long-time posters have said that summer and the first part of the semester can be difficult to get in touch with anyone at the cadre, but I'm wondering how long he should wait before following up? DS has already had a "meet and greet" with this ROO and they were very good about returning DS emails when trying to set up that original meeting. The gentleman seemed very organized and professional, so DS doesn't want to come across as a pest.

We called the ROO, and he set up the appointment for us. I would think that calling at this point would be OK- perhaps if they were on vacation, the e-mail was buried in the in box.
This is all happening so fast now - interview next week, DodMERB appointments the week after....all before school starts! Yeah! DS won't miss any school or sports practices, and I just have to re-adjust my work schedule for 1 day - it is all falling into place!

That's so great! Glad to hear things are moving along. I'll have DS call the ROO and try to get in touch with him that way. He started high school classes yesterday and starts college classes (dual-enrolled) next Monday. So, we are definitely going to be missing work & school to get this finished up. Bummer!

Not sure when the school your son will have his interview starts, if they are on semesters it could be next week. Battalions and cadre are pretty busy with new cadet orientation and setting up the new year. Have your son call the ROO and see when an appointment can be set. Once they are done with orientation things will settle a bit.

Will do -- thanks for the input!

Did they notify DS about getting DodMERB appt. via his Dashboard in the application portal? Getting the physical before the boards is new this year. In the past, they didn't require the physical until after an applicant had been notified that they had been awarded a scholarship.

DS received a snail mail letter - we had no idea it was coming, totally unexpected.
