AROTC Scholarship App Questions

Soccmommer, is he only applying to arotc or any other scholarship or service academies?

AROTC and USMA only, and his application to USMA, at the time of the letter was very incomplete. Yesterday he added his essays and CFA to his portal. Although in contact with coaches at USMA, he is not a recruited athlete, to our knowledge. His stats are good for GPA and class rank, but SAT/ACT scores a low in the reading/writing areas, making his overall score lower than average. So, the mystery continues as to why he got the DodMerb letter, but I am just thankful we are able to take care of this now incase he needs a remedial for something.

Older son applied to usma and usna last yr and United States Miltary Academy tripped Dodmerb earlier in the process. Though every yr is different, last yr on the Dodmerb website you were able to tell who initiated. Either way good job to your son on his motivation and progress.

+1 vista.

However, I don't believe they can tell until after the results pop up. For AFA, it can trip the exam when they go from applicant to candidate on their portal for the AFA.

Last two yrs for ROTC they held back on the exams because budget concerns were already occurring. They started closing/combining dets in 11. LY they knew sequestration was going to be a player, so they started tightening up the DoDMERB side. Basically ROTC was playing chicken with the SAs, so that they would cover the cost, or at least part of the cost.

They may have decided that by delaying until the scholarship was offered had a few negative downsides later on down the road when it came to waivers being processed.

One could be how it impacts AROTC in April/May when they do the transfers of scholarships...how do you know if a slot is available for someone if they do not know if the DQ was waived?

Plain and simple everything is like a domino effect with the system.

Just got accepted to Indiana University for Fall 2014!

Pretty pumped, just sent a cadre member I spoke with an email telling him the good news. One acceptance down, 4 to go!

Congrats Strength and Honor. Was this an Early Decision thing? You aren't locked in, are you?

No no, they just do rolling admissions and I got my app finished on the first day. I'm pretty certain I was one of the first accepted!
