Hello to everyone. I have a question about school based AROTC scholarship at SMC's. An incoming freshman who wasn't awarded a national scholarship need to do to win a 3 or 2 year school based scholarship and how does it is being awarded? I learned all incoming students opting for Cadet lifestyle must enroll ROTC and undergo same program with a ROTC winner. Is it automatically awarded based on good merit or a student must apply once attending the school to win a scholarship on later semesters . Thank you . (sorry for my poor English, not a native speaker)... God bless all..

There are many threads regarding campus based scholarships. The campus based scholarship process is very competitive, just like the national process. You need to show up in shape, make good grades and make a good impression on your cadre. The AROTC Department at the school will help you with the process of applying. What SMC are you considering?

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply. I'am a parent of both child offered SMC admissions. My youngest son is showing great interest for Norwich in the Cadet Corps lifestyle . I think he really wants to attend unlike the other, He was offered a good amount of scholarship, but did not apply for National Scholarship due to citizenship, but even with grant/ scholarships we will end up paying an amount of money I couldn't afford. Eventually when he become a US citizen early next year, he can be eligible. That's why I asked this question hoping someone or somebody with similar position who was a non - citizen (green card) and eventually got or awarded a scholarship while at school.

I forgot to mention, my other child ( eldest) was on similar situation last year, applied for AROTC NationaL scholarship but due to similar issue (citizenship) didn't pursue as advised, eventually however became naturalized last December and opted to attend a school nearby for practical reason.

I wish to support my youngest child on his desire to attend , I just want to hear someone or somebody's experience how they got through the process and eventually succeed. My big thanks again SIR/Ma'am..

Thank you for the detailed reply. Very admirable that both or your children want to pursue ROTC Scholarships. Norwich has probably the most generous scholarship offerings of all the SMCs. Since your child would be applying for a campus based scholarship, the staff at Norwich are your best sources for details regarding the application process once he/she is granted citizenship. I am not well versed in the specific requirements and timeline for a case like yours. I am sure some of our more veteran members will be along shortly to give you some more guidance on the best path forward. Best of luck!

1. get a ripping high gpa - especially in a tier 1 or tier 2 major
2. be a beast at pt
3. STAY AWAY FROM ALCOHOL - there is less than zero tolerance
4. participate in everything the unit has to offer - lead if possible - stuff like if the unit is picking up trash after sporting events be the guy that organizes the gaggle leaning on brooms
