AROTC Scholarship awards may be starting

Link to goarmy site to check status?

rotcmom - please copy and past link you are using. I still can't seem to see any schools listed.

But I did see Clarksonarmy post that stated: "Offers are subject to change until the notification letters are mailed. Applicants learn they are scholarship winners when they receive an offer letter signed by the CG, not before."

I hope they still have more scholarships to announce, my status hasn't changed

To those who did get accepted, could you please post your stats? GPA, PT score, extracurriculars, and the schools you applied to?

the same site you mention is where we see the schools. You are correct about letter but it was nice to see update.

In the past they have not been able to make all the updates in one day, sometimes they have continued to post them over the weekend, sometimes they don't resume until the next business day. Don't get stressed out, two more boards to go and probably more postings yet on the October:thumb:

CONGRATS to those who have already ready heard an offer is coming!!!!

Yea! Status changed to "you have been offered . . . " No schools listed though. So humbled to be given this opportunity.

My stats are listed in a couple of previous threads that I had listed on this forum. Try typing in my Forum Name in the search thread and if nothing shows up, then PM me.

Good news! Status changed and offered an Army ROTC Scholarship! Hooah!

But I don't see the list of schools and do not see whether it is 4 yr or 3 yr -- can anyone help me find out the list of schools? Is it on the original application?

I have been going to this site: https://schlr4yr.usarmyrotc.com/scholarshipstatus/status.asp

I appreicate your help!!

The first change you will see is that you are offered the scholarship.

It could take a couple days , thogh it seems to be happening more quickly this year, that you status will be updated again with the list of schools.

Last year when they listed the schools they did not say whether it was a 4 or 3 year scholarship for each school, my son did not know that until the official letter came in the mail.

Remember, when the letter arrives it will be dated, you have 30 days from the date on the letter to accept or decline the scholarship. You will need to select a school, sign it and send it back.

Don't just trust the snail mail, we faxed it, sent it by mail, and scanned it and emailed it to Cadet Command.....just to make sure, we also followed up with a phone call and an email. This is one letter you do not want to get lost in the mail.

Congratulations to all those that have heard good news, for those that haven't keep the faith, they will be releasing new results for another day or so. Don't fret if your not selected this round, there are 2 more boards, in previous years the smallest number of awards were given the first board.

Good luck everyone.

Best of luck to all of you. You've begun THE VIGIL, which for some will last through the third week of April.

Those not selected out of 1st Board are automatically (along with their Whole Person Score), rolled over to 2nd Board (and 3rd Board if not Awarded in 2nd Board).

Last year, Board 3 from 8 March, saw the results break out like this:

1. Thursday, 14 April: some out-of-turn ROO's (this is supposed to NOT happen this year) called or emailed applicants informing them that they had been awarded a scholarship to their school.
2. Friday, 15 April: for the first time, the Check Status website changed to show tha the applicant had been awarded a scholarship... but did not identify to Where, or whether for 3yrs. or 4yrs.
3. Saturday, 16 April and Sunday, 17 April: many applicants who had not checked the Status website Friday reported that their status had "just" changed. and that they had been awarded a scholarship. I suspect the website had been updated on Friday, but the applicant hadn't check Friday, seeing it Saturday or Sunday for the first time. I do not think updates occurred over the weekend... just that the applicants checked on the weekend and found it.
4. Monday, 18 April: more status changes on the Status website, AND those who got a Congratulations message on Friday, 15 April, now see a new message which indicates to which schools they have been awarded. The website STILL DOES NOT show whether 3 yr. or 4 yr. award.
5. Tuesday, 19 April: a few more status changes, but far fewer than Monday, which was fewer than Friday. Several applicants call ROOs to ask and a couple are told "the process is over. If you haven't been awarded by now, there won't be an award from Cadet Command".

Wednesday, 20 April: some start receiving the Official Award Letter via US Postal Service from Cadet Command. For the first time applicants (who had not called their ROO to beg for information prior to) see whether their Award is for 3 or 4 years. The rest get their letter Thursday, or Friday, or however long letters mailed in Kentucky on 19 April take to arrive.

Wednesday and for about two weeks: Those who were awarded a Scholaship to 1) school(s) they didn't get in to, 2) school(s) down on their list they don't WANT to go to, followed the protocol of Cadet Command to a) formally accept the scholarship to unwanted/didn't get into U, with a simultaneous formal request to transfer the scholarship to did-get-into/wanted U. Cadet Command took about 2-3 weeks to finalize those Scholarship Transfer decisions. A few reported the process took until late June.

Early May: "We regret to inform you... etc." officlal letters arrive via Us Postal Service. The Status website does not ever indicate non-selection.

-----------------------

Now, I left this for last as it doesn't apply to the 1st Board experience. There was some money still left after the 3rd and last Board at the Brigade/Battalion level. A couple of posters came on to report they had received a Scholarship from the Brigade/Battalion budget. This occured on Tuesday, WEdnesday, and on up until May 2, which was 10 full work days after the Cadet Command-originated Scholarship Awards were over.

Since this is the 1st Board, I wouldn't expect any Brigade/Battalion awards to come. Those "surprises" only come after 3rd Board.

Fun Fact: Once you start ROTC, you will still be in the system at that website. I went back and checked my info and they had changed the wording about DODMERB a little bit.
Your name will be sent to DODMERB the day your winner letter is printed.
Just a funny way to put it. :yllol:

Congrats to all the awardees. Let me know if any of y'all are coming to Wheaton :thumb:

Thanks Jcleppe, dunninla and all on ROTC board! I appreciate your insight into the process and help in understanding how the system works.

Congrats to all who have heard and I wish all others the best -- stay in touch with this board -- great help to all of us!!

Go ARMY!!

They must identify the school they are going to activate it at at this time? Most kids probably do not yet know what schools they are going to be accepted to. If they indicate a school that they do not get accepted to are they likely out of luck?

Hey Josh,

My son has been received any word on a scholarship but he may wind up going to Wheaton with Wheaton being the host school. He has gotten some great scholarship offers from some of the feeder schools to wheaton and may go to one of them or U of I. It really depends on where he makes his choice. We know of one MS1 student there. We will keep in touch.

My son's status changed today and lists three schools. That's GREAT, but one of them wasn't even on his final list (which he'd updated at least a few days before the submission deadline and we just double-checked), but it was on his original list.

Meanwhile, the school he was leaning toward isn't among the offers, but he's viewing it as "a sign" since he wasn't completely sure why that was his top choice anyway. That said, I'm wondering: Might the offer list still change as battalions weigh in on the process?

Someone asked for benchmarking info:
1340 SAT (740 Reading, 600 Math)
3.7 GPA (funky 4.0 scale that worked in his favor)
Top 41% of class at large public high school
Three years JV soccer, Varsity senior year, captain of club team
Soccer ref
Counselor at summer family vacation camp two summers
School club treasurer senior year only; member of club junior year
Church mission trips
200 interview score and PMS did a phenomenal job on the comments
Interviewed at local school he's not applying to
Communications major

Offered schools are two out-of-state publics and a private (didn't put any in-state schools on his list)

This board has been invaluable, along with the Clarkson ROTC blog and Marist's contributions too. Sincere thanks to those who've shared so much critical intelligence on the process.

congratulations Bison,

Please let us know if the pattern from last year's Third Board holds with this year's First Board: that is, that most Private or Out-of-State Tuition Public school awards are 3 Year Advanced Designee, and most In-State tuition awards are for 4 years.

89Bison,

To answer your other question, No, the list of schools offered will not change. Your son will receive a letter in a few days or so that will list the same schools as it shows on the status page. The letter will also tell whether the scholarship is a 4 year or 3 year AD scholarship.

It will be interesting to see if they are offering 4 year's to Out of State and Privates this year and how many. Like Dunninla asked, let us all know which scholarship was offered, it will be interesting to see the pattern for this year.

Great news!! My DS has received notification of AROTC scholarship award.
His stats are:

GPA 3.9
Class Rank 59/333
National Honor Society
Boys State
Eagle Scout
ACT Composite 28
3yr Varsity Baseball
NJROTC 4yrs

Now we wait for the school choices..

Congrats to all of those who have heard good news and best of luck to those still waiting!

P.S.

Last year, pulled from another thread at that time:

1st Board Awards offered: unknown (my guess is between 500-600)
1st Board Awards accepted: 400
2nd Board Awards offered: 800+
2nd Board Awards accepted: unknown (my guess is 400-500)**
3rd Board Awards offered: unknown, but certainly Budget - 1st two Board acceptances
3rd Board Awards accepted: unknown

If anybody has that data, feel free to share.

**by the time of the 2nd Board notifications, those who have applied to one or more Service Academies and another ROTC program, will have received more than one Commissioning Program offer, and some will have received Merit scholarship full or almost full rides to colleges not offering ROTC. Thus the Acceptance % should be lower for 2nd Board than for 1st Board.

We just checked and my son's status changed today. It states that he received a scholarship dependent on DODMERB. Schools listed are his top 2 schools, both private. He is very happy, but of course we are trying to keep him grounded, as the road is still long.

Now we wait on the service academies.
