AROTC Scholarship Letter Is HERE!!!

Earlier today I tried contacting cadre I had previously emailed with at my schools to let them know I received the scholarship there and now had a big decision to make - it seemed like they didn't believe me?

For example, I contacted one of the Cadre at USF, and he replied: "how did you find out? Did they send a letter?" and "I don't know that to be true". Seems odd to me that the cadre pick who gets the scholarship (right?) but don't know the people they chose. The other schools told me congrats but didn't seem like they knew for certain I was awarded one. Just something I noticed.

So do any of the schools ever contact the awardees to try to "recruit" them, or do they just let the cards fall as they may?

Excited!
UVA: 4 year IS
Colorado-Boulder: 4 year OOS
William and Mary: 4 year IS

Was it alphabetical?

Just out of curiosity....Was the single school
Listed on the portal everyone's first school
Alphabetically?

For me, yes. Arizona State was the one on the portal for me, and Northeastern and USC came in the letter.

Congratulations to everyone on the great news! It seems like the commonality is that everybody so far has been offered 4-year scholarships at 3 schools. Has anybody gotten more than 3 college offers? Have all of them been your top 3 choices?

No, the cadre don't pick the scholarship winners. There is a national Board that reviews each file and assigns a Whole Person Score. The awards go to top score, then next to top, etc. until the award allocation for that Board is exhausted. Process is repeated for Board #2, with rollovers from Board 1 included. Then the same for Board 3. AROTC has three Boards only, as opposed to NROTC - Navy Option that has over ten.

From what I see from the posts, and for me as well, it was the top three choices in 4 year scholarships that were awarded.

DS got choice 1,2,4. But choices 2 and 3 were both in-school publics, so maybe they were spreading the options? And the school listed on the portal was the first alphabetically.

Anyone got the letter from DODMERB yet? I want to get the process started, but don't know if I should create an account on their website or wait for the letter from them.

I got my DodMERB Army ROTC "Qualified" letter yesterday. But, I was already qualified through academy applications. So, when Cadet Command decided on the scholarship, they sent a request to DoDMERB at the same time. I think that means that CC requested for you to have a DoDEMRB exam if you haven't already. I would just wait for the letter. It will come.

DS received his AROTC qualified letter from DoDMERB the same day he got the scholarship notification. He also had already been qualified for USMA. What you have to fill out on that site takes a while, but if you get your medical records from your Dr now, you will be ready.Make sure you have dates of illnesses/injuries (even ear and sinus infections), medications/treatments given for each one, and Dr's seen. You have to write down the Dr's name and address. A lot of times!!!
For us, waiting for the Dr to get the info together for us took more time than filling out the form. For specialists, therapists, ER seen, we just went off the reports those Dr's sent to the primary care physician, as far as having exact dates and treatment, etc.

Clemson AROTC

4-year offers from Clemson (my top choice), UVA (parents' alma mater), and Alabama!

Congratulations on the scholarship! I hope you make the decision to accept the scholarship and attend Clemson. PM me if you have any questions about Clemson or Clemson Army ROTC. I am currently in the program there and would be happy to answer any you have.

This excitement is pretty cool to watch. Congratulations everyone!

Agreed -exhilaration and joy are fun to be around. This is one of my favorite threads. Someday, Chicago Cubs fans may know the feeling. And for those who haven't gotten good news, remember that the first AROTC board has in the past offered a disproportionately low number of scholarships.

By the way, those awarded scholarships by the early board will find themselves in a quandary. They must soon accept the award to a specific school without knowing if they've been admitted to that school (unless EA/ED). Not the worst problem to have, but potentially an issue nevertheless.
