AROTC Scholarship Second Board?

I have been reading through several forums and see that some will not be awarded until February 1st but have also seen that many people have been awarded scholarships since this past Thursday. I was boarded on the first board but did not receive an offer from it.
I am a Varsity Football player, co-captain, and all city defensive lineman. I am also my AFJROTC's unit commander and have held high leadership positions since my Sophomore year. On top of that, I do theatre for my school and hold a part-time job. My PT scores are all satisfactory, with 50 pushups, 54 sit-ups, and an 8:04 mile run (which I know is not great, but I ran the test during the season and was not in great long-distance running shape). I have a 3.53 GPA and a 27 composite ACT.
I know that the pool is extremely competitive, but I feel as though I have a fairly competitive file. Can anyone tell me if I am lacking somewhere or if all of the scholarships for the second board have been awarded? My file has been in the "boarded/under consideration" category since the start of the first board. The site is also down for maintenance so I cannot currently access my application.
My top three schools are Auburn, Alabama, and Texas A&M, will these being more popular schools affect my chances? I have been accepted to both Auburn and Alabama.

28ACT
54 pushups 59 crunches, 5:28 mile
3.7 UW GPA
JROTC BN CMDR, Student Gov. Rep, Tech student association president, several other clubs and a varsity letter in track and field. Nothing on my end either. I think it’s just super competitive this year, but I’m seeing quite a few 26 and below ACT scores get scholarships so I’m not sure anymore with the criteria.

Where did you read the results won’t be done until Feb 1st? Is that really true? If so maybe I can hope for a last minute result.

I had been reading through some of the other threads that were posted on around the 20th of January. However, reading all of the scholarships that have been awarded leads me to believe that I was not selected for the second board. I believe that it may be just an extremely competitive year but I am not sure how the applications are scored.

Judging from the results last year I thought I had a very competitive file, but it seems this year is scoring hard. I figure that the third board is what we are going for this year :/

I know that a lot of people get four years from the third board. It's just difficult playing the waiting game. Best of luck, though. I definitely thought my file was very competitive but there is something that is making it not, I just cannot tell what.

I hope that all goes well for you on the third board, and I feel the same way. I was told my interview was very competitive, and with the rest of my stats there must have been something that hurt the application. Either way, good luck for the third board and I hope something comes out for you!

DS portal updated with his 4 year award Thursday night after being boarded by the second board. His metrics were slightly higher, Act 30, 3.78 gpa unweighted with lots of AP courses. Two sport varsity letter, 4 year wrestling team cpt. Eagle Scout, similar school positions of responsibility, PFA had higher scores. You seem to be competitive so keep up the faith. How did your PMS interview go? That is extremely important as they’re recommendation is heavily considered.

My PMS interview went extremely well. He told me that my file was very competitive and would be surprised if I did not receive at least a three-year scholarship. I am also taking several AP classes on top of everything else.

Low ACT, with a lowish GPA and not much leadership. Sorry but easy file to read.
I do understand that neither my GPA or ACT is exactly the highest, but I have seen several people with 3.4s and lower with 25-26 ACTs still getting four-year scholarships. I am not sure why you think I do not have much leadership, but I can certainly expand. Thank you, though.

I got accepted for a 4-year scholarship to my #1, #2, and #3 schools. I wouldn't say I have the best of the best academics or anything.

3.44 unweighted GPA, 3.86 Weighted GPA
1220 SAT

Although, they follow a system of Scholar, Leader, Athlete I believe.

My PT scores were probably middle of the pack: 55 push-ups, 49 sit-ups and a 7:14 mile.

I'm my JROTC programs Battalion Commander despite being a year behind my peers having joined in my 10th grade year. I have 4 varsity letters for Baseball where I've been the captain for two, winning MVP and Most valuable Pitcher my Junior season. I'm apart of many clubs including Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), National Honor Society where I'm the treasurer, black student union, and a multicultural advisory club. I have about 114 hours of volunteer service through JROTC over 3 years.

I believe most of my luck has come from JROTC, Baseball, and the interview. I definitely did well in the interview process. All I can say is that they accept more on the third board than the second so keep your head up. You're already placed on the OML so they know you already. Maybe take the time to brush up on the essays or maybe get a letter of recommendation from an officer of the branch you're going for, who you know helps.
Good luck!

This helped my spirits a lot for sure. Thank you so much! Seeing that I have close scores to you makes me feel a lot more comfortable. How do you know that they accept a lot more on the third board than the second? Congratulations as well. I have done all four years of JROTC and am the current equivalent to an Army JROTC Battalion commander (AFJROTC Corps Commander) and have held senior leadership positions since my Sophomore year.

The PMS told me a lot more I guess than other applicants. He told me that the first board very little get accepted, then they increase the number of acceptances every board. The last board they give out whatever they have left, 4-years, 3-years, and the 2-years. I didn't include this at first but maybe submit documents stating that you've earned [blank] number of varsity letters through football or JROTC. 4 years in JROTC is equivalent to 2 varsity letters I believe. Definitely talk to your SAI about that. I submitted a letter signed by my coach stating I had four, then again it was at my interview. Anyways, good luck with the process!

I disagree - I see a lot of leadership. Most defensive lineman aren’t running 6 minute miles. I like your chances on 3rd board. I was awarded a 3 year 28 ACT 3.4 unweighted, 8 AP classes, offered Norwich, Wheaton and U of San Diego. I had Auburn as my #3, but got the Schnide from War Eagle nation.

Your chances are very good in my opinion. Plenty of leadership, grades/score o.k., varsity sports

You know, I see leadership also. I certainly give great credence to what an active PMS thinks, but I also think that amorphous terms like "leadership" in high school kids often exist in the eye of the beholder. If I were to hazard a relatively uninformed guess, I would agree with him that the academic scores have been the hindrance so far, although for a 3-year AD your ACT is probably around the mean. (I'm loathe to assess GPAs without context.)
If you don't get it, you seem like the sort of young man who will do just fine and earn an on-campus scholarship if that's what you choose to do. Auburn and Alabama (so far) are great choices either way!

Call ACT or try to sign up late for the Feb 8th test date. An increase on your academic side would greatly increase your chances at the scholarship. Did you have any other leadership stuff in school? IE Club Position, Student Council, etc. At this point academics would help you the most, unless you'd be willing to try and redo your PFA? I don't feel confident saying you won't get a scholarship, but I can't say that you're super competitive for a 4 year. None of your areas a bad necessarily, but they're not stellar. Again see if you can improve the academic and PFA to increase your chances the third round. Did you get accepted to any of those schools you listed? If you've been accepted, there may be a higher possibility for you to get some sort of scholarship. Best of luck to you!

Edit: Just saw you were accepted to two of the schools, my bad.

Just applied for the AROTC Scholarship but was awarded NROTC already! I'm leaning towards the Navy, but I'm also trying to keep my options open.
